Year 8 Agriculture 🧑‍🌾

After such a fantastic experience with our Year 9/10 Paddock to Plate class, we just had to take our Year 8 students along as well!

Students enjoyed the warmer weather and another incredible day participating in the “Growing the Future Program” at the Hagley Farm School Agricultural Learning Centre 🏫

A huge thank you to Liam, Tristan and Mike for their generosity, knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the week. Our students had an absolute ball and walked away with valuable new skills, knowledge and real-world agricultural experiences 🌾

Some of the day's highlights included:

🪱 Collecting worm wee and using drone technology to fertilise a paddock
📉 Interpreting weather data using Ag Logic's weather station technology
🚜 Enjoying tractor tours around the property
🐄 Learning low-stress stock handling techniques and how to safely move cattle through cattle yards

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore modern agriculture, emerging technologies and the many career pathways available within the industry.

Thank you again to everyone involved in making these experiences possible! 👏 And a huge thank you to Mr Sherman for his work in getting our students involved with such fantastic opportunities 🤩

🎿 Ski Trip Grant - 2027 - Amazing Opportunity!

Have you ever dreamed of going on a ski trip but thought it might not be possible because of the cost? This is your chance!

Deloraine High School is offering a Ski Trip Grant to support a student who will be in Grade 9 or 10 in 2027, helping them take part in this amazing experience.

This grant is designed for students who would love to go but may not otherwise have the opportunity.

Write an application (student written, maximum 500 words) and address it to Mr Lietzau and Ski Trip Staff. This can be emailed to Mr Lietzau or handed into the office or Mr Lietzau himself.

UTAS Science and Engineering Challenge 🔬👷

Today, students from our Launch Pad and Engineering classes participated in the UTAS Science and Engineering Challenge ⭐️

Students put their teamwork, hands-on creativity, and problem solving skills to the test to solve real-world challenges 💡

Students tackled activities such as bridge building, testing wind turbines, and constructing model houses just to name a few. Our students blew us away all day, and we were glad to see the team building and problem solving skills of Agfest come out 👏

We also managed to come 2nd place! 🥈 So watch this space for State Championships 🤩 How good are the kids from Deloraine!

Inter High Cross Country 🏆 Winners!!

Yesterday, a group of students travelled to Kings Meadows High School to compete in the Inter High Cross Country Carnival.

Our students represented the school with outstanding sportsmanship, determination and team spirit throughout the day. Thanks to some incredible individual performances and a strong overall team effort, we were thrilled to come away with the Junior Shield, Senior Shield and the Overall Shield - an incredible achievement! 🏃🏃🏻‍♀️👟

Congratulations to all students involved on an amazing result. We are very proud of your efforts and the way you represented our school ⭐️

Year 9/10 Agriculture: Paddock to Plate 👨‍🌾🌾🐄

Today Year 9/10 Paddock to Plate students travelled to the Hagley Farm School Agricultural Learning Centre to partipate in a number of hands on learning activities.

Students experienced drone demonstrations, moved and weighed cattle in cattle yards, took on the role of agronomists and made suggestions to farmers based on the weather using weather stations and so much more!

A big thank you to the team at Hagley as our students had a blast! We look forward to taking our Year 8 students on Friday 🤩

Hydro Girls in Power ⚡️

Some DHS students had the opportunity to take part in a two day Generation Hydro Girls in Power program showcasing career pathways in the electrical industry.

They built circuits, extension cables, squishy circuits, speed careering and had a tour of a power station 💡

Outdoor Education 🥾🪵🌳

Today our 9/10 Outdoor Education class travelled to Liffey Falls. Here they practiced their bushwalking and outdoor cooking skills using bushwalking cooking equipment, such as a trangia. A great day out for all ⭐️ Thank you to our staff for organising ☺️
