📚 Exciting News for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School!

We are delighted to share that Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School has been selected as one of the winners of the Rabo Community Fund 2026 George the Farmer Book Competition.

With more than 170 educational institutions from across Australia applying, the judging panel was particularly impressed with how our school plans to integrate the George the Farmer resources into our curriculum and educational activities.

As a result, our school has been awarded the complete George the Farmer book collection bundle, valued at $308.

These engaging books help children learn about Australian agriculture and develop an understanding of where their food and fibre come from. We are excited to add this wonderful collection to our learning resources and look forward to sharing them with our students.

A huge thank you to the Rabo Community Fund and George the Farmer for supporting agricultural education and providing this fantastic opportunity for schools across Australia.

We can't wait for the books to arrive and to begin exploring them with our students!

This week, our Grade 4–6 band students spent the day collaborating with musicians from St Patrick's College, Launceston, taking part in a vibrant Band Workshop Day filled with mentoring, learning, and shared music‑making. The day wrapped up with a lively afternoon performance for the whole school, showcasing their growing confidence, teamwork, and talent.

Our Grade 3–6 students were busy this week, diving into hands‑on creativity with our Tool Skool woodworking incursion. From measuring and sawing to sanding and assembling, they’ve shown incredible focus, teamwork, and pride in building something real with their own hands. A fantastic blend of learning, problem‑solving, and fun.

Yesterday, students in Grades 3–6 took part in the interschool cross country at Deloraine Primary School. Congratulations to all who participated—there was some great running and excellent sportsmanship on display.

Today, selected Grade 4–6 students travelled to Hoblers Bridge to compete in the Northern Tasmania Primary School Netball Championships.

Despite the cold and wet conditions, our players never stopped giving their best, playing with enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles. Their efforts resulted in an impressive result of 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school, with determination in every game and supporting one another on and off the court.

Congratulations to all students involved on a fantastic effort! 🏐
