💙 Big Feelings Growing Brains
We are incredibly proud that Goodstart Moreton Downs has been part of the Community Transition Strategy – Big Feelings Growing Brains.
Developed by the Hand in Hand Network in response to Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data, this community initiative places children’s wellbeing and family support at the heart of a successful transition to school.
With guidance from Professor Selena Bartlett, five podcasts have been created to provide families with practical strategies, tools and resources to support children’s social and emotional development.
This inspiring project has brought together parents, educators, teachers, school leaders, psychologists, speech pathologists, neuroscientists and community organisations, all working towards the same goal—supporting children to thrive.
🎧 We encourage all families to explore these free resources. Simply scan the QR code on the attached flyer to listen to the podcasts and discover practical ways to support your child’s emotional wellbeing and transition to school.
Together, we can help every child grow with confidence. 💚

🤝 Community Connections
Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Sharon and Fiona from Deception Bay North State School to Goodstart Moreton Downs. 💚
Sharon, a Prep teacher and facilitator of our community Hand in Hand meetings, and Fiona, who supports families and children with their transition to school, spent time meeting with Miss Nikki and Miss Alana to discuss community initiatives and how we can continue providing wrap-around support for families in the Deception Bay community.
They also visited our Kindergarten children and spent some time with Miss Claire, where Sharon shared a story and chatted with the children about “big school.” It was a wonderful opportunity for our future Prep children to begin building confidence and familiarity with school, while reinforcing that our early learning services, schools and community all work together to support every child’s transition.
We are so grateful for these valuable partnerships that help create positive beginnings for our children and families. 💙

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

🖤💛❤️Our Community Rock Garden is Growing

A huge thank-you to one of our wonderful families for decorating these beautiful rocks and helping bring our project to life.

As we continue to reflect on this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, “Bridging Now to Next”, we are excited to be creating a Community Rock Garden that celebrates inclusion, belonging, respect, and connection within our centre community. These special rocks have already added so much colour and meaning to our display.

We would love for every family to get involved by painting a rock with a design, symbol, word, or message that reflects reconciliation, diversity, friendship, inclusion, or what makes our community special. Every rock will help tell the story of who we are and how we walk together with respect and understanding.

Watch this space as our Community Rock Garden continues to grow! 🌱✨

🌟 Building Resilience in Kindergarten 🌟

This year, we have welcomed John from ZenEd Resilience Programs to work alongside our Kindergarten children and educators. John visits our centre fortnightly to deliver engaging resilience sessions that support children’s social and emotional development.

As part of this partnership, John is also supporting our educators to build their knowledge and capabilities in promoting resilience, emotional intelligence, and executive functioning within everyday learning experiences. This professional learning helps strengthen our team’s ability to support children’s wellbeing and development in meaningful and responsive ways.

Through fun, interactive, and age-appropriate experiences, children are developing important life skills, including executive functioning and emotional intelligence. These sessions help children learn how to regulate their attention, thoughts, emotions, motivation, and behaviour skills that support success in learning, relationships, and everyday life.

We are proud to be partnering with ZenEd and love seeing both our children and educators grow in confidence and capability each week.

✨ Enrolments for our 2027 Kindergarten program are now open! If you are looking for a high-quality Kindergarten program that supports children’s learning, wellbeing, resilience, and school readiness, we’d love to hear from you.
