On Saturday, 15 August, our Deception Bay campus proudly hosted a successful Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fundraiser at Bunnings Rothwell. The event was made possible through the support and hard work of all Deception Bay staff, along with a group of dedicated volunteer students who generously gave their time throughout the day.

It was an awesome fundraising event, bringing our school community together while raising valuable funds for our students. The money raised will help subsidise the cost of Year 12 jerseys for the Class of 2027, ensuring more students can proudly celebrate their final year at Kairos. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.

Our Wellbeing Room has recently received a significant glow up, creating a welcoming and purposeful space where students can pause, regulate, and reset during the school day.

Designed to support students using 5-minute passes, the room provides a calm environment away from classroom pressures. Thoughtfully selected textures, soft lighting, and sensory activities help students engage their parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and promoting emotional regulation. The space encourages mindfulness, reflection, and self-awareness while giving students practical tools to manage overwhelming emotions. By supporting regulation in a safe and calming environment, the Wellbeing Room helps students return to learning feeling calmer, more focused, and ready to re-engage in class.

Can you support our students as a volunteer?

As Volunteering Australia's National Youth Volunteer Week comes to a close, we are shining a light right here on home ground across our campuses. While our students are out supporting the wider community, we also rely heavily on our amazing community of local supporters to help keep our own campus hubs thriving.

One of the most loved traditions across our Caloundra, Nambour, and Deception Bay campuses is our weekly tribal lunch program, where we come together over a warm meal to connect, share stories, and build a strong sense of belonging. Preparing and serving regular lunches for growing teenagers takes a lot of hands, and we are always looking for friendly community volunteers to help us cook, prep, or lend a hand on campus.

Whether you can spare a few hours to help cook a hearty meal, share a special skill, or support our campus events and breakfast clubs, your time makes a massive difference to our students' daily lives and wellbeing.

As Volunteering Australia's National Youth Volunteer Week continues, Kairos Community College thanks every local organisation, mentor, and business that has partnered with us this year. To keep this momentum going, we are looking for community groups and businesses across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions to host our Year 10 students for regular or project-based volunteering.

Welcoming our students gives your team reliable, hands-on help so you can accomplish more while strengthening our community. Because volunteering is a scheduled, weekly subject built into the school term, you get consistent support without extra administrative work. Our dedicated college staff also attend to ensure smooth collaboration every step of the way. 865 Hours of Impact... Spotlighting our campuses for National Youth Volunteer Week!

It is Volunteering Australia's National Youth Volunteer Week, and we are celebrating the incredible contribution of our young people. So far in 2026, 81 Year 10 students across Kairos Community College have contributed an impressive 865 hours of volunteer service to our local communities!

Here is how our campuses are making a difference:

💜 Kairos Deception Bay | 21 Students • 244 Hours
Partnering with local organisations including Kingdom Makers Food Outlet, Mermaids By The Bay, and Salvos Stores to gain hands-on experience in retail operations, food relief, and community support across the Moreton Bay region.

💚 Kairos Caloundra | 25 Students • 238 Hours
From planning and running Kairos Community Thrift Shop events to supporting the End ED Nurture Community Garden, Containers for Change QLD and CAYAC Charity Shop & Care Centre clothing drives.

🩵 Kairos Nambour | 35 Students • 382 Hours
Engaging in hands-on farm work at End ED Nurture Community Garden, youth support initiatives with The Shack Community Centre, and individual local placements.

It is Volunteering Australia 's National Youth Volunteer Week, and this year's theme, 'Your Year to Lead', captures exactly why active volunteering sits at the heart of our learning model.

At Kairos Community College, volunteering is integrated directly into our Year 10 curriculum as a timetabled subject through the Certificate II in Active Volunteering. Traditional classroom settings do not suit every learner, and shifting the focus from personal challenges to serving others can be transformative.

Through practical community work, our students:
💜 Develop core employability skills like communication, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving.
💜 Build genuine confidence by stepping outside their comfort zones and discovering their strengths.
💜 Connect with community mentors, breaking down social barriers and feeling valued.

We are incredibly grateful to Shawn Sykes, a Director from Unconditional ConneXtion , and the team at Pappadams Restaurant & BAR in Mango Hill for their extraordinary generosity towards our Deception Bay campus!

Thanks to their partnership, our students enjoyed 50 freshly prepared meals this week, with this wonderful support continuing twice a month for the remainder of the year. In addition, Shawn kindly provided special clothing and footwear packs for a group of our students, bringing huge smiles to their faces.

Community partnerships like this make such a profound difference in the lives of our young people, helping them feel valued, supported, and cared for. Thank you, Shawn, Unconditional ConneXtion , and Pappadams Restaurant & BAR, for investing in our school community and sharing this great opportunity with us!

🎄🎅 Christmas in July! 🎅🎄

What a wonderful day celebrating Christmas in July together! For morning activity, everyone enjoyed getting into the festive spirit with some fun activities, including Pin the Nose on Rudolph and colouring Christmas decorations to hang on our tree. There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and creativity on display!

For our special Christmas tribe lunch, we were treated to a delicious feast of leg ham, BBQ chicken, potato bake, fresh salad, and gravy. And of course, no Christmas would be complete without dessert! We enjoyed a sweet selection of pavlova, jelly, and Christmas crack, which was a big hit with everyone.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special. It was wonderful to come together, enjoy good food, festive activities, and create lasting memories.

Yesterday, our Sport and Recreation class visited Base Training Centre North Lakes. This term, the class is studying various forms of martial arts and self defence. This trip was very kindly sponsored by owner-operator, Aaron. Aaron is a professional MMA fighter and provided the group with invaluable insights and training techniques in Boxing, Wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu.

Our young people had a great day full of takedowns, submission holds, and many laughs. We thank Base Training Centre North Lakes once again for hosting us and hope to see you again in the future!
