Pure Childhood Joy 💦
Celebrating 30 years of educating children in Deception Bay. To celebrate free childcare for all new enrolments in January 2026. Email [email protected] for details

Today our children were completely immersed in the magic of play at our water feature — and what a beautiful sight it was! Buckets, cups, splashes and streams became invitations to explore, discover and delight.

There’s something truly special about watching children just be children — laughing with friends and educators , experimenting with flowing water, feeling the cool drops on their skin, and following their own curiosity.

In these moments of awe and wonder, they’re not “just playing.”
They’re learning.
They’re problem-solving.
They’re connecting.
They’re experiencing pure joy.

Water play invites imagination, teamwork, sensory exploration, and endless opportunities for children to lead their own learning. And judging by the smiles, giggles and soaked shirts of educators… they loved every second of it. ☀️💧

🌱 Sustainability is woven into our everyday practice, teaching children to care for their world and make thoughtful choices.

🧠 Using the Circle of Security approach, we ensure children feel secure, confident and ready to learn.
⚽ We see children as able and active learners, capable, competent and full of potential.
🎲 And of course — we learn through PLAY, because that’s where imagination, problem-solving and joyful learning thrive.

🌟 We love welcoming Adult Students, here at Moreton Downs Early Education Centre! 🌟

Today we are excited to welcome a couple of adult students from a local college into our centre! They have joined us to learn, observe and experience the wonderful world of early childhood education.

And here’s a fun fact… one of these students actually attended our centre as a child! And from our other recent students we have now employed Miss Brooke! How special is that? 💛✨
It’s such a beautiful full-circle moment and a reminder of the lasting impact early learning environments can have.

We’re thrilled to have them with us and look forward to sharing our space, our philosophy and the joy of learning with them!

💛 Grandparents are the best kind of grown-ups! 💛

Yesterday at Moreton Downs Early Education Centre, we celebrated the wonderful grandparents and special people in our children’s lives. It was a day filled with laughter, love, and creativity!

Together, we drew beautiful portraits of one another, made colourful jewellery, shared stories, built amazing LEGO creations, and enjoyed every moment spent together.

Even though not everyone could join us on the day, the children shared heartfelt conversations about their grandparents and the other special grown-ups who mean so much to them.

We are so grateful for the love, wisdom, and joy that grandparents bring into our lives — every single day. 🌼💫

When children “play”…..

What do you see when a child is at play? Running, building, creating, pretending, these are the moments that catch our eye. But just beneath the surface, something much deeper is happening.

Play is where children develop adaptability, confidence, and problem-solving skills. It’s where they learn to navigate risk, build friendships, and trust their own ideas. It’s where their brains and bodies work together, shaping the skills they’ll carry for life.

The next time you watch a child play, remember, what’s visible is just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much happening underneath!

We wash with it, drink it, and cook with it. Yet when it falls from the sky, we rush children indoors as if it’s something dangerous.

Think about how many days of play are missed because of a little rain. We study the weather through charts and songs, but the best way to understand it is by being in it. No poster or flashcard can teach what a child learns by feeling raindrops on their skin, watching ripples form in puddles, or hearing how sound changes in the damp air.

Playing in the rain isn’t just fun. It’s deeply sensory. The temperature shifts, the texture of mud, the rhythm of falling water—all of it stimulates neural pathways for sensory processing and observation. Rain play supports balance and coordination as children move across slick ground, and it activates the vestibular and proprioceptive systems that help wire the brain for focus, movement, and emotional regulation.

And despite what many of us grew up hearing, rain doesn’t cause colds. Colds come from viruses, not the weather. In fact, time outdoors strengthens the immune system, improves mood, and helps regulate stress hormones. With the right gear (waterproof layers, boots, hoods, etc.) children can stay warm and dry while still gaining all the benefits that come from exploring nature.

The best rainy day activity isn’t hiding from the weather. It’s getting out in it. Childhood is too short to spend waiting for the sun.

Learning Through Play – More Than Just Fun & Games!

To the untrained eye, play-based learning might look like a free-for-all — children running, playing in water, getting messy, not sitting at desk doing "work". However, in this "chaos" there is laughter, curiosity, discovery and learning, a joyful powerful and purposeful learning.
At Moreton Downs Early Education Centre, we embrace play as the most natural and effective way for children to learn.

Through play, children develop:

Social skills
Emotional resilience
Language and communication
Problem-solving and creativity
Numeracy and literacy skills

Our educators carefully design environments and experiences that spark curiosity and support each child’s current and emerging interest and development — all while making learning feel like fun!
So next time you see busy little learners, know that they’re not just playing — they’re growing, discovering, and thriving.
Play is learning!

✨👶 Did You Know? 👶✨

Sensory exploration is one of the most important ways children learn and grow. From the moment they are born, children use their senses to make sense of the world around them.

Through hands-on experiences like:
🖐️ Squishing playdough or clay
🌊 Pouring and splashing water
❄️ Exploring ice and temperature play
🌾 Running hands through sand
👂 Listening to music and environmental sounds
👃 Smelling flowers, herbs, or spices
🫧 Mixing and stretching slime or goop
🪣 Digging in fake mud or messy play trays

Children are:
🧠 Strengthening brain pathways that support learning and memory
💬 Building language and communication skills as they describe textures, temperatures, smells, and sounds
🎨 Enhancing creativity and imagination through experimenting and problem-solving
🤲 Improving fine and gross motor skills
😊 Learning to self-regulate emotions and calm their bodies

Messy, sensory-rich play like slime, mud, ice, and water may look like “just fun,” but it’s actually powerful learning that sparks curiosity, confidence, and resilience. 🌟
