Feeling really blessed to have such wonderful sistas in my life ❤️ (plus many more who weren’t there but you know who you are!) spent the weekend in the pennyroyal valley , sharing stories, cooking up delicious food, having baths, drinking copious amount of tea, doing womb yoga, canoeing on the lake, dancing and being whoever we needed to be. Having a very autumnal cooking day today 🌿🍅 Loving the recipes and tips on tomatoes and foraging in the new milkwood book 😍 I’m Saying goodbye to the last of the tomatoes in making MORE bottles of passata and pickled green tomatoes. And.. I have been enjoying foraging seaweed lately from our beautiful clean southern ocean waters. I have had golden kelp, sea lettuce and wracks (in picture) drying on the clothes line and today grinded them and made it into seaweed gomasio! My new favourite superfood table condiment 😍 thanks for your inspiration 🙏 ###x @ Deans Marsh, Victoria

🌱Banksia cuttings 🌱 I recently found out that my uncle fully established his half acre native flower gardens all without buying a single plant. All from cuttings! 🌱 this autumn time of year is meant to be he best time to take them. I have done cuttings from a number of different banksia varieties from the banksia site 💐 the process: take cuttings of pencil thick last year’s growth (slightly woody but also bendy). Take them home and cut them into 20cm long bits, take all but a few leaves at the top, make a cut under a leaf node, dip straight away into rooting hormone and then into pots with a mixture of soil and sand. I’ve done around 10 plants per pot, but in hind site I could have fit in a lot more. Am leaving now for a few weeks and then will check if they have started growing roots 🤞 Plants can get expensive, and often propagation when you know when and how to do it, is really easy. Give it a go at home! @ Deans Marsh, Victoria

For anyone interested in herbal medicine, deepening connection to land, cycles and each other, this will be a wonderful weekend in May. It will be delving into the seasonal nature of herbalism, the four elements, bodily systems and what herbs we can forage and use to support these systems. Go to ‘lily of the herbs’ on Facebook for more details of the event. This grassroots herbalism movement is SO important and empowering for us all to be more in touch with the uses of plants that grow around us 🌱 look forward to being a part of this ###xx @ Ladys Pass

Hawthorn and Rosehip foraging time!! Since working in native regen for a little while I have learnt to not underestimate the weedy potential of some European plants (many of which are wonderful foods and medicines). Perhaps if we all got out there and harvested the fruits from these plants for our food and medicine, less of them would germinate in our environment, and both herbalists and native regen enthusiasts could be happy.. win win right?! 😉

🍅’Juane Flamme’ Tomato 🍅 what a beaut variety.. juicy, sweet and dense. It’s been great to come home after a weekend away and find many of these beauties ripening up in my garden. Thanks to Kinsfolk Farm for stocking me up with many heirloom varieties for my garden this year!! I’ve already started collecting seed as I’ve been taught to collect from the ‘first and best fruit you get. 1. Empty seed content into jar. 2. Fill jar with water, put lid on and leave for a few days to slightly ferment (this process puts an antibacterial coating on the seed which protects it from disease next year) 3. Put through a sieve and wash 4. Dry them out on absorbent paper and when dry, bag up for next year. And lastly...Enjoy the feeling of self resilience and empowerment in actively growing your own food 🍅🍆🥦 @ Yan Yan Gurt West Farm

🌿Forest Foraging in the Otways 🌿 Loving the journey of learning about what seasonally grows in my local surroundings- both native and introduced. I find it so exciting to connect in with the land around me through food and medicine🌻 In the photos you can see.. 🌿Usnea (old mans beard) used medicinally as an antibiotic herb. 🌿Coprosma quadrifida (native currant Bush) which has yummy edible berries. 🌿 Sambucus australasica (native elderberry) has yellow edible berries when fully ripens. 🌿Dianella (flax Lilly) which has purple edible berries (didn’t taste so good to my pallet, very bitter, so if anyone knows of a good use for them please share) @ Blanket Leaf Picnic Area

🌿 GARLIC is ready!! 🌿 but firstly... “Save the Best before Eating the Rest”. Even though it’s tempting to start using these beauties straight away, remember to pick out the biggest bulbs first and save them for planting in the autumn, as big cloves develop into big bulbs for next year. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and immune booster that I use daily in food and eat a clove at the first sign of a cold (....then eat a mouthful of parsley to counteract garlic breath! 😉) Nothing better than homegrown medicine ❤️

Fresh medicinal herbs straight out of the garden! Nothing better 😍🌿 fresh chamomile, lemon balm, verbena, lavender and oat straw to make a calming and rejuvenating tea that we drank at the end of a little herb walk I ran on New Year’s Eve.. What a fantastic gathering we had at Yan Yan gurt! So many feelings of love and connection and community ❤️ for me I intend to bring more fun and playfulness into my 2019... as sometimes life can just get too serious!! 🤪 nothing like hanging out with three little humans to teach me that lesson! happy belated new year to you all ❤️ xx @ Yan Yan Gurt West Farm
