We understand that some members of our community may have recently come across news regarding an incident involving a Bangladeshi student in Darwin.

We would like to clarify that the incident occurred around seven months ago, and the recent coverage relates to the conclusion of the legal proceedings. Since the incident, the Bangladeshi Students Association (BSA) has remained supportive of the student, assisting with accommodation, safety, emotional support, and helping him feel comfortable during a very difficult time.

We are grateful that the legal process has now been concluded, with the offender receiving a four-year sentence. The student has also received $1,600 in restitution towards his financial loss of approximately $4,500.

We encourage everyone not to be alarmed by the recent coverage. The matter has been addressed, and our community continues to support and look after one another. ❤️🇧🇩
