Torres Shire Council welcomed Professor Jaqui Hughes, Diana Mosca and Catherine (CJ) Scotney from Flinders University, who met with Mayor Seriat OAM and CEO Bani to provide updates on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Advancement (ATSIHA) Program.
π©πΎββοΈπ¨πΎββοΈ The ATSIHA Program is working to advance First Nations kidney health through research, education and community engagement across the Torres Strait and Northern Australia.
π The eGFR3 Kidney Health Study focuses on the long-term kidney health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults living in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Follow-up research has highlighted the importance of ongoing awareness, prevention and early intervention to address the progression of kidney disease in our communities.
πΏπ΄πΎπ΅πΎ The ZENADH Health Science Research and Education Council (ZHSREC), an Elder-led initiative, continues to play an important role in educating communities about kidney health and ways to prevent kidney disease.
π€πΎ Through island visits, symposiums and community events such as the Winds of Zenadth Cultural Festival, the ATSIHA Program team is helping share vital health knowledge directly with our people.
ποΈβ€οΈ Torres Shire Council is proud to support Professor Hughes and her team as they continue their important work to improve kidney health outcomes for our communities.
