π’β¨ Numeracy in Preschool β¨π’
In Preschool, students explore numeracy concepts through structured play, rotations and intentional teaching opportunities. Through activities focused on problem-solving, numbers, patterns, shapes, measurement, time, spatial awareness, and technology, students build important foundational skills ππ§©
Some of our learning experiences include completing puzzles, singing counting songs π΅, weighing objects βοΈ, counting with one-to-one correspondence πΈ, matching tasks, sorting objects by colour, size and shape π, exploring sensory trays, and rolling dice games π²
Activities are completed individually, in small groups, and as a whole class to encourage independence, peer learning, turn-taking, and sharing. These experiences help us support and extend each student's numeracy development throughout the yearβ

This term, as part of celebrating Nemarluk Schoolβs 40th birthday ππ, students in Room 8 explored games played by children in the past as part of their unit of work.
Students had great fun learning and playing traditional games such as hopscotch and marbles while discussing how children entertained themselves before technology and electronic devices were common. It was wonderful to see students developing teamwork, turn-taking, coordination, and problem-solving skills while experiencing activities enjoyed by previous generations. The students especially enjoyed comparing these old-fashioned games to the games they play today. π€
