🍣 Happy National Sushi Day! 🍣

Today our Preschool 2 children had the exciting opportunity to become little sushi chefs as they joined our wonderful chef, Kea, for a hands-on sushi making experience!

The children explored the ingredients, discussed healthy food choices, and practised important fine motor skills as they carefully rolled and created their own sushi. There was lots of curiosity, concentration, and excitement as they discovered how their favourite sushi is made.

Experiences like these help children develop confidence, independence, and an appreciation for different foods and cultures through meaningful, hands-on learning.

A big thank you to Chef Kea for sharing his skills and making this delicious learning experience so much fun! 💚

Last week in the Toddler 2 classroom, the children enjoyed a colourful sensory science experience using coloured ice, baking soda, vinegar, and cornflour!

The children were fascinated as the ice melted and created fizzy bubbles, with many eagerly sharing their discoveries with educators. They explored the different textures, colours, and reactions while creating beautiful patterns with the coloured ice.

This hands-on experience encouraged curiosity, sensory exploration, creativity, language development, and collaborative play. 🌈🧊✨

Last month our team came together for a rich and reflective Learning and Development meeting, focused on 'Caring Mindsets: Emphasising the CARE in Early Childhood Education'.

We were privileged to have Jacinta from Early Childhood Australia (ECA) join us as the host of our meeting, supporting and guiding meaningful discussion and deepening our understanding of nurturing practice within early childhood settings.

Throughout the session, we explored the 5 Components of Nurturing Care, and reflected on how these principles are embedded in our daily interactions, environments, and intentional teaching. A strong focus was placed on inclusion, and how we can continue to ensure every child feels a genuine sense of belonging, safety, and connection within our service.

This professional learning experience reinforced the importance of responsive, relationship-based practice and the powerful role educators play in shaping children’s emotional wellbeing and development.

🌊🐠 Celebrating World Oceans Day! 🐢💙

Today, the children explored World Oceans Day through ocean-themed sensory trays, aquatic animal investigations, and discussions about environmental sustainability.

These hands-on experiences encouraged curiosity about marine life while helping children develop an understanding of the importance of caring for our oceans and protecting the environment for future generations. 🌎✨

During Reconciliation Week, our service had the privilege of coming together to acknowledge and reflect on the importance of reconciliation in Australia.

We were honoured to host Jeannenn McLennan from Larrakia Nation, who generously facilitated a Welcome to Country for our children, families, and educators.

As part of the experience, Jeannenn also shared a beautiful reading of Sharing by Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson, supporting the children to deepen their understanding of caring for Country, connection, and the importance of sharing responsibility for looking after land, sea, and community.

This meaningful experience supported us to strengthen our understanding of Larrakia culture and Country, and to continue building respect, connection, and reconciliation within our learning community. The children were engaged and curious as they listened, reflected, and participated throughout the session.

We extend our sincere thanks to Jeannenn and Larrakia Nation for sharing their knowledge, time, and culture with us.

Recently, our Centre Leadership Team travelled interstate for professional development, and Melinda stepped up to support the team while they were away. Her willingness to lead, support others, and ensure everything continued to run smoothly truly reflects her professionalism!

This week we have been recognising Road Safety Week through fun and engaging learning experiences with the children.

We explored key safety messages such as stopping, looking, and holding an adult’s hand, and talked about how to stay safe near roads and cars. 🚸

These experiences help build important lifelong safety awareness.💛
