As the NT NATSIWA Director I was very appreciative of the opportunity to attend with our CEO Sandra Creamer the 10th AEDF in Alice Springs.
The presentations were thought provoking and Indigenous business was front and centre.
The energy and inspiration was palpable.
Thank you Naomi Anstess, Jerome Cubillo, Jason Jones and the team for your advocacy and for creating an experience to remember.

Not a day goes by that my mother Barbara does not think of, talk about and remember her mother, Bridget Johnson who was stolen at the age of 8 from Borroloola.

As the National Sorry Day draws to a close we reflect on the strength and
courage of all our family members who were stolen.

Let us always remember and continue the healing by telling the truth.

Had a great day yesterday delivering Rise UP training with the amazing Anindillyakwa Strong Women’s Group from Groote Eylandt.
They are committed and passionate about making a difference in their communities.

We had the privilege of working with amazing leaders today delivering Rise UP 2 Lead.
The Bush Medijina ladies from Groote Eylandt shared their knowledge, stories and reflected on their strength and resilience as Anindilyakwa women.
Aboriginal Leadership and how to create lasting positive social change was the topic of the day.

Today being the anniversary of the national Apology is a day we pause to reflect and acknowledge the sad historical stories and memories of many First Nations people.
Mum and I attended two events to reflect and remember. We were thinking of mum’s mother who was taken from Borroloola at 8 years of age.

The 2021 Senior Australian of the Year, Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann shared her personal story about her little sister being taken away and the trauma created by this forcible removal over the generations.

At each event it was a privilege to observe the positivity, resilience and strength of our people that despite the past injustices and mistreatment we still prevail.

Today we are reminded how grateful we are for being able to help our Mob (participants) grow in confidence and knowledge through the power of TNCS programs like RISE UP, which they can then share with family, friends and community.

What are you grateful for?

Today we shared stories about our beautiful Nana (Mum’s mother) and reflected on what this day means to us as National Sorry Day in 2020.
We celebrate the love and resilience of our people and those affected by the Stolen Generations. It is something we should never forget as we never want it to happen again.
Even though my grandmother was taken as a child and then passed at an early age ... not a day goes by where our mother talks of her and remembers.
