Who’s there?
TERM 4!!!! 🎉
Welcome back to Term 4! It was wonderful to see our students and staff return, with a real buzz around the school. We have an action packed term ahead, filled with learning, exciting events and plenty of opportunities to strengthen our Parap connections. 💙
📚 Professional Learning
Our staff kicked off the term on Monday with a day of professional learning, collaboration and reflection as we continued working towards our ASIP (Annual School Improvement Plan) priorities.
The day included exploring bilateral movement and Berry Street strategies to support Connection, analysing NAPLAN data, embedding the CRA model in mathematics, deepening our understanding of Explicit Instruction, and exploring Daily Reviews for English.
As always, our staff embraced the opportunity to learn, share ideas and strengthen their practice.
🏃 SEDA Visits
Our friends from SEDA have commenced a series of visits to support Mr Dimi during Physical Education lessons. Their involvement provides valuable additional support and learning opportunities for our students, who have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thanks to the SEDA team for joining us!
🧠 Trivia Night – What a Night!
Thursday night was a fantastic celebration of our wonderful Parap community spirit — and a chance to show off just how clever we are! 🤩
A huge thank you to the generous local businesses who donated amazing prizes for our raffle and trivia winners. We are also incredibly grateful to the families and wider community members who supported the event and helped make the night such a success.

🌟 Week 10 Wrap Up – What a wonderful way to finish the term! 🌟
As we reach the end of Term 3, there has been plenty happening around Parap Primary School! From celebrating attendance, enjoying Book Week and discovering musical opportunities, it has been a busy and joyful final week.

🎉 Trivia Night Preparation
Our SRC (Student Representative Council) members have been out and about connecting with our wonderful Parap community and asking local businesses to support our upcoming Trivia Night, at the Boat Trailer Club in Thursday 8th of October at 6.30pm.

💛 Parap Kindness
Some mysterious messages appeared on our walkways this week, encouraging students and staff to pause, read and reflect on some wonderful words of kindness.
What a lovely reminder to show kindness, look out for others and think about how our actions can make someone else feel.
But the big question is… where did they come from? 🤔

🍕 Attendance Celebrations
Congratulations to 2 Sinclair, who won a Pizza Party with MLA Laurie Zio for achieving the highest attendance across the school this term!
We also celebrated 6 Hawken for demonstrating the best punctuality over the term. Ms Zio helped celebrate their achievement with some icy-cold treats!
Next term, we will be celebrating our most improved attendance and punctuality, so keep up the great work, Parap!

🎵 NT Music School Visit
Our Year 3–6 students had the wonderful opportunity to watch some of our talented student musicians perform on Thursday.
The demonstration showcased the many different instruments students can learn throughout their schooling and provided information about NT Music School enrolments and auditions.

📚 Book Week
As Dr Seuss reminds us, “The more that you read, the more things you will know!” 📖
Parap certainly embraced the spirit of Book Week, with students and staff dressing as favourite book characters and joining our whole-school parade at assembly.
There was a wonderful atmosphere as we celebrated our love of reading and connected with some much-loved characters — with 101 Dalmatians and Shaun the Sheep making a particularly memorable appearance!

🌴 Term 4
Our dedicated teachers will return on Monday 5 October for professional learning, including Explicit Instruction, Daily Reviews, analysing NAPLAN data and sharing strategies to strengthen mathematical learning.

We are excited to welcome our students back for Term 4 on Tuesday 6 October! 🎉

🌟 Week 9: A Time to Shine at Parap School! 🌟

What a fantastic week it has been across our school community, with so many opportunities for learning, connection and celebration.

📚 Book Fair Success
Our library was transformed into a wonderful book fair this week. A huge thank you to Mrs Lawrence and Ms Richardson for helping students and families discover exciting new books and foster a love of reading. We were thrilled to see so many families visit throughout the week.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parent-Teacher Meetings
Tuesday evening was buzzing as families and teachers came together to discuss student progress, celebrate achievements and plan future learning goals. We greatly appreciate the strong support and commitment shown by our families through the excellent attendance at interviews.

🕺💃 Preschool Disco
Our preschool community enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of dancing, laughter and connection on Tuesday. It was wonderful to see so many families attend and build relationships within our community. Thank you to Holly, Sonia, Sapana and Claire for organising and supporting such a successful event. We are already looking forward to the next one!

🔬 STEM Comes to Parap
Our Year 5 and 6 students participated in an exciting STEM experience with the Bright Future STEM program. Students explored hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics activities that challenged their thinking and inspired curiosity.

🏊 Interschool Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to our talented swimmers who represented Parap at today's interschool carnival. Their dedication to training and commitment to giving their best was evident throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of their achievements.

🎓 Year 6 Transition to Darwin High School
Friday marked an exciting milestone for our Year 6 students as they began their transition to high school. Students had the opportunity to explore life at Darwin High School, experience different learning environments and start preparing for the exciting journey ahead.

💛 RUOK? Day
Our staff took time this week to recognise the important message of RUOK? Day. Thanks to Mrs Hyke, Mrs Stephensen and Mrs Sparks for preparing a delicious morning tea and special RUOK? cupcakes. Most importantly, the day reminded us all of the power of checking in, starting conversations and supporting one another to strengthen wellbeing across our community.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for making Week 9 such a memorable week. As we head towards the end of term, it is wonderful to reflect on the many ways our school community continues to learn, connect and shine together. ⭐

🌟 Week 8 Update! 🌟

What a busy and exciting Week 8 we’ve had at Parap Primary! From incredible performances at the BEAT Festival to sporting opportunities, excursions and some very delicious treats, our students have been learning, performing, exploring and having plenty of fun along the way!

🍌 Yonanas Go Bananas!

Our Eco Warriors have been busy putting our generous donation of bananas from Simon George & Sons to very good use!

They whipped up a scrumptious batch of Yonanas — a delicious, creamy frozen treat made from bananas. The queue was certainly a busy one as students lined up to enjoy this special treat!

🎭 BEAT Festival – Traveller

What a wonderful performance our community enjoyed as the BEAT Choir and Dance Troupe joined students from schools across the NT for this year’s spectacular show, Traveller.

With more than 250 performers, our talented students took to the stage and showcased their incredible skills, confidence and dedication. What an amazing experience for our performers!

A huge thank you to Mr Tali White and Ms Julia Richardson for their commitment to our students and our community, including the many extra hours they gave to support rehearsals and performances. Thank you also to Mrs Lawrence for helping out on performance nights.

Congratulations to all of our talented students — you should be incredibly proud of yourselves!

🏓 Table Tennis Gala Day

Our senior students headed to the Darwin Table Tennis Centre in Marrara for a fantastic day of table tennis and games with students from other schools.

Thank you to Ms Coffin for supporting our students to try new sports, develop their skills and enjoy the opportunity to compete and connect with others.

Chung Wah Excursion

Our Year 6 students visited the Chung Wah Society this week, where they explored museum artefacts and learned more about the history and contributions of the Chinese community throughout the NT.

It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect their learning with our local history and community.

SEDA Clinics

Students and staff from SEDA (Secondary Education at School) joined us on Thursday to run energetic football clinics for our Year 1 and 2 students.

Our younger students had a fantastic time learning and practising their football skills through fun, active and engaging activities.

Father's Day stall

Look out dads, you have some amazing gifts coming your way! Mrs Stephensen, MS Sinclair and Ms Lawrence created a wonderful gift shop for our children to explore. Happy Father's Day!

Did we mention it’s Week 7?

This week at Parap Primary, our students have been learning, moving and growing! From bike safety and AFL to creating gardens and a fresh new look for one of our school spaces, there has been plenty happening around our school.

🚲 Bike Safety
Over the past two weeks, our Year 5 and 6 classes have visited the Bike Safety Centre to learn strategies for keeping themselves safe on their bikes and becoming more road-safety aware.
Ms Cluse and her Year 5 class certainly enjoyed their experience — lots of learning, riding and, hopefully, a few new safety habits along the way!

🏉 AFL Gala Day
On Wednesday, Mr Dimi and Ms Cluse supported our school teams at the AFL Gala Day at Gardens Football Oval.
Well done to all our students who demonstrated collaboration, inclusion and teamwork throughout the day. We were so proud to see these Parap values in action!
A big thank you also to Ms Hawken, who stepped in to take Mr Dimi’s PE classes for the day so he could support our teams. 👏

🌱 A Sensory Start
Year 1 Rowe have been working on their transition to learning each morning, exploring a range of strategies to help them settle, connect and get ready for the day.
Students have been enjoying reading, creative arts, Numeracy and Literacy games, and most recently, establishing a garden and exploring the sensory tubs.
It has been wonderful listening to their wonderings and conversations about the sensory sand and watching their excitement as their plants begin to grow. 🌱

🎨 A Fresh New Look
Our multipurpose area near the front of the school has had a fresh coat of paint this week, giving the space a refresh.
The refurbished area is already proving to be a fantastic space for Chinese lessons, music, drama, incursions and, of course, classes coming together for collaborative learning.

It’s Week Six and Here Are Our Picks!

It’s Week Six and Parap Primary has been buzzing! From bike safety and sporting success to excursions, assemblies and professional learning, there has been plenty happening across our school.

🚲 Road Safety
This week, all classes met with our Road Safety team to brush up on our bike safety skills. Students in Years 4–6 have also begun visiting the Bike Safety team, learning about safe riding, decision-making and staying alert on the road.

🏅 Student Celebrations
We are so proud to celebrate some fantastic sporting achievements from our Parap students!
Congratulations to Ibukun (Year 6), who represented the Darwin Region at the NT Schools Sport Athletics Championships this week. Ibukun took home a silver medal and set a fantastic new personal best! 👏
We also congratulate Lachie, Lillie and Pippa on their outstanding performances at the NT Short Course Swimming Championships over the weekend. All three swimmers collected medals and achieved numerous personal bests. 🏊‍♀️
A huge congratulations to Lachie, who set a new NT record in the 100m Butterfly and was named Junior Male Champion! Lachie and Lillie have also qualified for School Nationals. What an achievement!
Also, a big shout out to Beau from Year 6 who represented the NT in Canberra for AFL.
We are Parap Proud! 💙💛

📚 Teachers as Learners
Our teachers have also been busy learning this week, engaging in professional learning to strengthen our approach to Explicit Instruction.
After reviewing our school model, teachers worked in learning groups to share and reflect on the Daily Reviews used in their classrooms. Daily Reviews help consolidate learning and strengthen students’ understanding and recall. It was wonderful to see learning and ideas shared across classrooms from Transition to Year 6, including Performing Arts.

🏛️ Future Parliamentarians
Our Year 5 students headed to Parliament House this week as part of their HaSS learning. They explored the building and learned more about the processes and systems that underpin our government. Perhaps we have some future parliamentarians in the making!

🐝 Assembly
We finished the week with a wonderful assembly, including special attendance prizes for three lucky students who have achieved 100% attendance so far this year! We hope they enjoy their free tickets to the AFLW this weekend.
We also celebrated World Bee Day with the help of 2 Giallouris and 6 Berger. Their performance of the famous Waggle Dance was certainly a buzz!

Duck Dive into Week 5!
It has been a while since we’ve enjoyed a full week at school without a public holiday! We certainly made the most of it, with plenty happening across Parap Primary and a strong focus on curriculum and learning.

📚 Parent Workshop
Our Early Years families had the opportunity to learn more about supporting literacy learning at home. Ms Sutton, Mrs Chappell and Ms Sinclair shared the key components of literacy within the curriculum, along with practical strategies to support homework, nightly reading and children’s ongoing literacy development.
Thank you to all the parents who attended and contributed such thoughtful questions to the discussion. We love seeing our school and families working together to support our students’ learning!

🏊 Swimming Carnival
Today, our Year 4–6 students headed to Parap Pool for the Parap Primary School Swimming Carnival. As students made their way to the pool, it was a sea of house colours, posters and plenty of excitement!
This year, we were thrilled to use some amazing technology, including touch pads to record race times and ensure accurate results for our swimmers.
🏆 Congratulations to Hudson House on taking out the Swimming Carnival!

A huge thank you to the wonderful Mrs Stephensen for her incredible organisation and planning. Her hard work ensured everyone had a fantastic day. We also extend our thanks to our fantastic parent volunteers, who generously gave their time to support the carnival. As a special thank you, Laneway kindly gifted a coffee voucher to each— we hope they enjoy a well-deserved coffee! ☕️

🌭 Sausage Sizzle
To finish off a wonderful swimming carnival, students returned to school ready to refuel at our sausage sizzle. There were plenty of hungry tummies ready to chow down!
Thank you to our amazing helpers, Jo, Miss Meg and Miss Fiona, and a very special thank you to Mr Keo, who was presented with a Parap Apron in recognition of his ongoing dedication to keeping our hungry students well fed. He always seems to be behind a barbecue!

🎭 Encore, encore… it’s Week 4! 🎭

Disconnected 📵
What a spectacular night! Tuesday evening was the culmination of weeks of dedication from our incredible students and staff, supported by our wonderful Parap families.
The evening began with families enjoying delicious food and spending time getting to know one another before heading into the hall for our much-anticipated performances. We loved watching every class take us on a journey through time, exploring how music and technology have changed our lives. The cheering, clapping and excitement from our audience made the night truly magical!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported our ‘Disconnected’ concert. A special shout-out to Miss Richardson and Jess for sharing their expertise in music, acting and stage lighting and helping bring the whole production to life.

Going Bananas! 🍌
A big thank you to Simon George & Sons for their generous donation of boxes of delicious bananas to our school. We can’t wait to see what our Eco Warriors get up to with these special treats!

Australian Primary Principals Day 🌸
Our wonderful Mrs Hyke was showered with thoughtful gifts at assembly this morning to celebrate her dedication and commitment to our school community. Each class designed beautiful flowers and created heartfelt messages to show their appreciation. 💐
Mrs Hyke also took the opportunity to thank Mrs Stephensen and Mrs Sparks for their ongoing support as Assistant Principals. We are certainly lucky to have such a dedicated leadership team at Parap!

Assembly Excitement!
What an exciting assembly we had this morning! Asleigh Taylor kicked things off by drawing the lucky raffle winners from Tuesday night’s concert, with plenty of very excited students and parents waiting to collect their prizes.
We were also thrilled to welcome NT Cricket, who gave lucky students the chance to win free passes to the upcoming Test Match. 🏏
To finish our assembly, Ms Rintoule’s Year 4 class presented a wonderful performance celebrating the diversity and rich cultural heritage of Australia. What a fantastic way to finish the week!

We guarantee it’s Week 3!

Disconnected! 🎭📵
Week 3 has been a whirlwind of rehearsals, set design and costume checks as we prepare for our spectacular school concert on Tuesday 4 August. This year's production, Disconnected, follows the adventures of three children who are sent through time when the Wi-Fi goes down!
Every class has been working incredibly hard and is excited to showcase their performance on the night, including our preschool students, who will be joining us on stage this year. We can't wait to see our talented students shine!

Cyber Safety 💻
Following workshops with the Australian Federal Police for both staff and parents on supporting children to stay safe online, Mrs Lawrence has been reinforcing important cyber safety strategies with our students. This week, students used Canva to create and share posters highlighting practical ways to stay safe in online environments. Regular conversations at home about online safety can make a significant difference in helping children develop safe digital habits.

Public Holiday ☀️
A reminder that Monday 3 August is a public holiday. We hope everyone enjoys some quality family time and makes the most of this beautiful weather. We'll see everyone back on Tuesday, ready for an exciting day before our much-anticipated concert that evening!

🌟 What's New in Week 2? 🌟

🏕️ Year 6 Camp
Our adventurous Year 6 students and staff headed off on their annual camp on Monday, returning on Wednesday after three action-packed days. Following the bus trip to Batchelor, students challenged themselves on the high ropes course, tackled the rock-climbing wall, cooled off with swimming, enjoyed adventure games, explored the area on bike rides and, of course, sampled the delicious camp food!

A huge thank you to Ms Coffin, Ms Hawken, Ms Berger, Mr Dimi and our wonderful parent volunteers Adrian, Chloe and Nick. We are so grateful for the time, care and enthusiasm you gave to make this camp such a memorable experience for our students.

♻️ Eco Warriors
Our dedicated Eco Warriors, alongside Mr Anita, were back in action this week helping to reduce our environmental footprint. From sorting recyclables to ensuring waste is placed in the correct bins, our students continue to show great leadership in caring for our school and our planet.

🎭 Assembly
Our Week 2 assembly will be held on Thursday, hosted by our Year 5 Student Representative Council members. We are also looking forward to a special dance performance by Mr Anita's Year 5 class. Families are warmly invited—we hope to see you there!
