Mitchell Street Childcare Centre had the pleasure of having:

🐰🐔🦎🐊🐹 Animal Encounters at our Centre! 🌿✨

Last month, we welcomed Trinket from Animal Encounters for a wonderful hands-on experience! Our babies, toddlers, 2–3 year olds and preschoolers all had the opportunity to meet and gently interact with the animals.

The children were curious and excited as they explored the animals, feeling different textures such as soft fur, feathers and skin, while observing their movements and behaviours. For our younger children especially, touching and experiencing these different textures provided a wonderful sensory learning experience. 💕

This experience supported the EYLF Outcomes 2, 3, 4 and 5 by encouraging children to connect with the natural world, develop care and respect for living things, explore through curiosity and build language and communication.

It was beautiful to see children of all ages engaged, curious and excited to learn through a real-life experience! 🌱💚@

Our babies celebrated pyjama day and teddy bears picnic like no one else could! They aced their outfits and definitely won owning the cutest teddy bears 🧸🌸☀️


It was a day filled with cuddles, laughter, stories, songs, and meaningful play, creating beautiful memories together. These experiences supported children’s sense of belonging, wellbeing, and communication, aligning with EYLF Learning Outcomes 1, 3 and 5, while reflecting the National Quality Standard (NQS) through intentional play-based learning (QA1), nurturing and responsive relationships (QA5), and strong partnerships with families who helped make the day so special (QA6). 💛

A very special celebration of the NAIDOC week at Our day care.

This cultural interaction, with didgeridoo playing and smoking ceremony gave our children a closer look of the beautiful country that we live in.

These experiences were delivered respectfully and in an age-appropriate manner for each room, supporting children’s understanding, respect and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives.

As the NAIDOC WEEK has already commenced on July 5, 2026, we acknowledge the Traditional custodians of the land, the Larrakia people, on which we gather today. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise the continuing connection to Country, culture and community.

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the world’s oldest continuing cultures. Together we honour the strength, resilience, knowledge and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through listening, learning and sharing, we build respect and understanding for future generations.

Durinf NAIDOC WEEK, we will:
📖 Read Dreaming stories (shared respectand from appropriate sources)

🎨 Create artworks inspired by our learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

🎶 Listen to Aboriginal and Torress Strait Islander music

🍃Explore native plants and animals

🤝 Learn about caring for country

💛 Celebrate diversity, respect and belonging

National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week at Our centre

On 26th May, our children had the wonderful opportunity to welcome two special volunteers who visisted our centre to share the rich sounds and cultural significance of the didgeridoo.

As we marked National Sorry Day and acknowledged the beginning if National Reconciliation week, the experience provided children with a meaningful opportunity to engage with and appreciate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Through listening, observing, and participating, children were encouraged to develop an understanding if Australia’s shared history and the importance of respect, inclusion, and reconciliation.

We thank our volunteers for generously sharing their time, knowledge, and culture with our learning community. Experiences such as these help foster curiosity, respect and a sense of belonging for all children.

HEALTHY HAROLD UPDATE!!!! 🦒

Last week, Healthy Harold visited our centre once again, bringing lots of excitement, laughter, and meaningful learning experiences for our children.

Our Kindy Koalas and Preschool children participated enthusiastically in the session, where they listened, interacted, grooved, and engaged in valuable discussions about health and wellbeing in a fun and age-appropriate way in collaboration with Healthy Harold Life Education NT

This visit focused on promoting healthy lifestyle practices and supporting children’s understanding of wellbeing, safety, emotions, and personal identity. Harold also helped children learn about body awareness, recognising early warning signs, identifying trusted adults at home, school, and within the community, and understanding how to seek help when needed.

This learning experience strongly links to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), particularly:
🌱 Outcome 3: Children Have a Strong Sense of Wellbeing — as children developed increasing responsibility for their own health, physical wellbeing, and personal safety.

🐝🌼 Happy Worlds Bee Day! 🌼🐝

Today, our little learners celebrated International Bee Day through a fun and creative learning experience! The children enjoyed colouring and creating their very own bees before placing them on sticks and taking them into the garden. 🌸✨

The children were also taught about the hard work that the bees 🐝 put in to make honey.

Through imaginative pretend play, the children explored the important role bees play in nature by pretending their bees were collecting nectar and making honey. It was wonderful to see their creativity, curiosity, and teamwork come to life during the experience. 🍯🐝

This learning experience strongly reflected EYLF Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners, as the children used imagination, creativity, problem-solving, and active exploration during both the art activity and dramatic play experience. 🌱

What a beautiful way to learn about nature, sustainability, and the tiny creatures that make a big difference in our world! 💛
