The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

✨ Healthy Habits & Happy Connections! ✨
Our Nursery children are practising handwashing together, building independence and learning healthy hygiene habits. 🧼👏 After washing their hands, they enjoyed a relaxing morning tea with friends, sharing conversations, taking turns, and practicing patience.
Through these daily routines, children strengthened their self-help skills, social connections, and confidence in a warm and welcoming environment. 💛🌟

🌱 Learning Through Gardening! 🌱
Last week, our Preschoolers worked together as a team to plant spring onions and learn about sustainability. Dressed in a fun eggplant costume, Ms. Dinah sparked the children’s curiosity before they explored gardening tools, followed planting steps, and learned about the plant life cycle.
The children discussed what plants need to grow—soil, water, sunlight, air, space, and lots of care. Everyone eagerly took turns planting, and Meezan showed great responsibility by helping water the garden. 💚
This hands-on experience encouraged teamwork, creativity, and an understanding of how we can care for our environment. Now, we look forward to watching our spring onions grow and observing the changes over the coming days! 🌱✨

🌿✨ Learning Beyond the Classroom at CDU ✨🌿
At CDU, we believe that children don’t just learn within four walls — they learn with and through the world around them. Our natural environment plays a vital role as teacher, alongside educators and peers, inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a deep connection to Country.
Every day, we intentionally program opportunities for children to explore the outdoors. Whether it’s climbing, digging, observing wildlife, or engaging in nature-based play, these experiences support children to develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of wonder. 🌱
By embedding outdoor learning into our curriculum, we create meaningful, hands-on experiences that encourage problem-solving, collaboration, and a respect for the environment. Children are empowered to take risks, ask questions, and discover their place within the natural world.
At CDU, the outdoors isn’t just a space — it’s a classroom full of possibilities. 🌏💚

🌿✨ Learning Through Culture & Nature ✨🌿
At our centre, we love creating meaningful opportunities for children to connect with culture, creativity, and the natural world around them.
Through hands-on experiences using natural resources such as leaves, sticks, stones, and sand, our little learners are encouraged to explore, imagine, and create. 🍃🪵 These open-ended materials inspire creativity while helping children develop problem-solving skills, fine motor control, and a deeper appreciation for the environment.
We also embed cultural experiences into our daily program, supporting children to learn about and respect diverse traditions, stories, and ways of being. By weaving culture into play and learning, children begin to build a strong sense of identity, belonging, and connection to community. 🌏❤️
Combining nature-based play with cultural learning provides rich, authentic experiences that nurture curiosity, creativity, and respect for the world around us.
It’s wonderful to see our children learning, creating, and growing through these meaningful connections every day. 🌈
