Due to many of our students being away for the long weekend, we have decided that there will be NO training this Sunday for any of our classes.

📱 Reminder: AusAlert National Test Today

A reminder that the AusAlert national test will take place today at 1:30 pm ACST.

Compatible mobile phones, smartwatches, tablets, children's safety watches and Apple CarPlay devices may sound a loud alert and display a test message, even if they are on silent or Do Not Disturb.

For people experiencing domestic or family violence, this alert may be distressing if they have a hidden device. If it is safe to do so, switch the device off or place it in Flight Mode an hour before the test and keep it off for an hour or more after.

📱 National AusAlert Test – next week

Next week at 1:30 pm Darwin time (ACST) / 2:00 pm AEST, Australia will be testing the new AusAlert emergency warning system.

The alert will make compatible devices vibrate, play a siren-like sound and display a message confirming it is a national test.

Because it is being sent as a Critical Alert, it may still be received even if your phone is on silent or "Do Not Disturb". The purpose of the test is to make sure the new AusAlert emergency warning system is working properly and can reach people when it is needed during a real emergency.

Some older people, people with disability, or those experiencing domestic and family violence may not be aware the alert is coming. If you know someone who may be affected, please take a moment to let them know about today's test.

🎆 Happy Territory Day everyone! 🎆

Today we celebrate what makes the Northern Territory such a unique place to call home - its history, community and Territory spirit.

Whether you're letting off a few fireworks at home or heading out to enjoy the displays, we hope you have a great night.

While it's a night many Territorians look forward to, it's also one of the busiest nights of the year for emergency services and one of the most stressful for our companion pets and local wildlife.

⚠️ CHILD ASSAULTED IN DURACK

Yesterday afternoon, a 12 year old child was reportedly allegedly assaulted in Durack while walking home after stopping at the lakes for a fish after school.

The incident occurred near the bus stop opposite Territory True Café. The child was confronted by a group of youths who removed his backpack and searched through it, before he was slapped across the face and caught on the arm with his own fishing lure.

The child sustained a number of minor injuries and was understandably left shaken and distressed by the experience.

No child should feel unsafe walking home from school. Incidents like this are a reminder of the importance of personal safety awareness and having open conversations with our children about what to do if they ever feel unsafe.

At Kokoro Busshu Karate, our students develop confidence, resilience, situational awareness and personal safety skills that can help them navigate everyday challenges with greater confidence.

We also regularly cover personal safety topics, including stranger danger, recognising unsafe situations and what to do if something doesn't feel right.

While no training can prevent every situation, but these are important and valuable life skills that can help people recognise potential risks, make informed decisions, set boundaries and respond with greater confidence when faced with challenging or unsafe situations.
