Throwback to where it all began five years ago!

Rod delivered our very first training course to 10 Indigenous students at Jenkins Road, Weddell. Our first week was cut short when Darwin went into lockdown…. definitely not the start we had planned! 😂

Despite the unexpected beginning, it was a very successful course, with most of the students going on to use their new skills to gain employment.

This week we teamed up with Wulaign Homelands Council Aboriginal Corporation to deliver:

The boys took to the machines like they had been doing it for years. They gave everything a crack, had a laugh along the way and made our job easy.

Also, turns out the Lajamanu cold is stronger than James’ commitment to shorts… the long-longs finally made an appearance 😂

What a year it’s been!

As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a huge year for our small RTO and we couldn’t be prouder.

📊 2025 at a glance:
- 62 White Cards delivered
- 196 machinery tickets issued
- 18 full qualifications achieved
- 79 indigenous trainees, representing 69.3% of our total trainees this year

For a small business, these numbers mean a lot. They represent hard work, long days, growth but most importantly people gaining skills, confidence and opportunities in the civil, extractive and mining industries.

We are incredibly proud of every trainee who trusted us with their learning journey this year. Your commitment, effort and achievements are what make everything we do worthwhile.

Congratulations to Ronan, Jake and Tom from Allan King & Sons on successfully completing their RII30120 Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations through the NT Government’s User Choice initiative!

We’ve had the pleasure of working closely with AK&S over the past year and it’s been deadly! Their commitment to training and development is second to none, and their trainees consistently demonstrate motivation, capability and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Over the past few months, SJT Training has been proud to deliver hands-on civil construction training to members of the Belyuen community.

This project gave local participants the chance to build practical skills in machinery operation, workplace safety and teamwork all through on-site, workplace-based learning.

👷‍♂️ 11 students started the program, and we’re proud to share that 9 students completed most or all of their training; a 77% completion rate!
In remote Indigenous training, national averages often sit below 20%, making this an outstanding achievement and a real credit to the students’ dedication.

From the first day behind the controls to the final assessments, their effort, teamwork and growth were inspiring to watch.

A huge thank you to our trainer James for your support, and to the Belyuen community for welcoming us and creating such a positive learning environment.

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Rick Lavercombe and Lavercombe Grader Services. Your construction expertise, on-site guidance and the support of your team made a huge difference for our trainees throughout this project.

And finally, a sincere thank you to the Northern Territory Government for supporting this initiative and helping make training like this possible in remote communities.

These new skills open doors to future employment, confidence and community opportunities and we’re honoured to have been part of the journey.
