Back pain can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it feels like every movement might make it worse.
But the back is actually very adaptable. After the initial flare settles, research shows that gradually reintroducing movement and strength work is one of the best ways to recover.
Your spine and surrounding muscles respond to load. When we slowly build strength through movements like hinging, lifting and carrying, the body learns these movements are safe again. Over time this helps reduce sensitivity and builds a stronger, more resilient back.
Avoiding movement completely can actually make things worse long term, because the body loses its tolerance to load.
The key is progressive, controlled exercise โ not doing nothing, and not doing too much too soon.
