If you’ve ever found yourself parenting by “trial, error, and a quick panic-Google”… you’re not alone.

The Tips & Advice hub on The Poppet Centre website is a growing library of practical, plain-English reads you can dip into when life gets busy (or loud). Browse by topic and find support across areas like: Divorce & Separation, Blended Families, Communication, Relationships, Ageing Parents, Household Wellbeing, Games & Play, Babies, Food & Nutrition, Teens, Exercise, Online life.

Recent reads include topics like:

• When the world feels unsafe (how to talk with children about violence in the news)
• Social media & teens (how to step in gently, without hovering)
• ADHD and hidden strengths
• Family therapy (why it can help)

If you find something useful, share it with a fellow parent who might need a steady thought today.

Parenting can be one of the most rewarding roles you’ll ever take on… and also the one that has you googling “is this normal?” at 2:00am.

At The Poppet Centre, we’ve built a simple model to make parenting feel less like guesswork and more like steady, supported decision-making:

ADVICE
Have a specific question you’re stuck on? Send it through and we’ll respond with clear, practical suggestions within 48 hours (it includes up to three email exchanges across a week, for fixed price per question).

SUPPORT
Parenting can be isolating so we provide a series of opportunities to connect you with other parents for peer connection, as well we offer counselling/coaching when you need more personalised support.

TRAINING
Workshops, seminars, and programs for children and teens with practical skills, strong communication, and resilience-building.

If you’re in a “we’ve tried everything” moment, you don’t have to do it alone.

4 signs your teen may be struggling online and how to gently step in...

If your teen seems permanently attached to a device, you’re not alone — and you’re not overreacting to wonder, “Are they safe with all of this?”

We can’t (and don’t need to) monitor every click… but we can notice shifts that suggest something isn’t okay, and step in early.

Here are the four gentle flags to watch for:

1. They jump online at the same time every day
2. They’re suddenly very secretive about their screen
3. Their mood spikes after they log off
4. They’re down / withdrawn / upset after being online

The key isn’t to go full detective — it’s to stay calm and curious, keep communication open, and remind them your job is safety, not “catching them out.”

Family life can get complicated fast and sometimes you just need a calm, practical sounding-board to help you reset the pattern.

At The Poppet Centre, our Coaching & Counselling services are designed to support parents, families, and teens with stronger communication, healthier relationships, and practical solutions you can actually use at home.

If you’re not sure where to start, here are three structured pathways we offer:

✅ Raising Happy, Healthy Children (6 sessions)
✅ Executive Parenting (6 sessions) — for busy professionals juggling big careers and active family life
✅ Building a Family Mission Statement (3 sessions) — shared values, shared direction, stronger connection

We also offer mentorship for those “life feels messy” seasons — a more flexible, ongoing space to debrief, reflect, and refocus. Sessions are available online or face-to-face across multiple locations (including Australia + Asia).

For the busy parent who travels for work, the pull to get home can be powerful.

Home is where the people are.
Home is where the bedtime stories, school runs, dinner-table chaos, unfinished conversations, and ordinary little rituals live.

And sometimes, if we are honest, home is also where the guilt sits.

So we rush. We finish the meeting, close the laptop, pack the bag, and try to get back as quickly as possible — as if arriving home tired, flat, and depleted somehow proves how much we care.

But perhaps there is another way to think about it.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for the people we love is to take one small pocket of time to breathe before we return to them.

A walk.
A coffee without emails.
A quiet meal.
A night’s sleep that is not stolen between airport announcements.

Not as escape. Not as indulgence. But as a reset.

Because present parenting and present partnering require more than physical arrival. They ask us to come home with enough of ourselves still intact to listen, laugh, notice, and be available.

The work may pay for the airfare, but sometimes the gift lives in the day after.

If your child trusts you with who they are, treat it like the gift it is. Pride Month is a good time to practise the basics: love them, listen, learn, protect their dignity — even in casual conversations, even with family. 🌈
