Open Day is this Saturday!

On Saturday 5 September, spend the day at the National Art School and get to know the people, spaces and programs that make up the NAS community.

The full program is available on our website to help you plan your visit, with sessions and activities running throughout the day. From campus tours and open studios to creative activities, talks and opportunities to meet artists and lecturers, there will be plenty to see and do throughout the day.

National Art School alumni are invited to an exclusive evening with Cressida Campbell AM and Eliza Gosse.

Cressida Campbell AM is among Australia’s most significant contemporary artists working with painting and printmaking. Joining her is award-winning painter Eliza Gosse, whose evocative depictions of Australian architecture and suburban life have earned national recognition.

Presented as the inaugural NAS Alumni Network event, this special evening offers alumni the opportunity to hear both artists reflect on their practices, careers and connection to the National Art School.

Tickets are $10 and include a complimentary beverage on arrival.

Tonight: a free screening of 'Live It Up: The Mental As Anything Story' at the National Art School.

Founded here in the 1970s (then East Sydney Tech), Mental As Anything became one of Australia's most distinctive cultural forces: irreverent, visually sharp, and armed with some of the cleverest pop songs this country's produced.

Director Matthew Walker will be joined by Reg Mombassa to introduce the film, followed by the screening.

Tomorrow at the National Art School, hear new perspectives on Margaret Olley’s life and legacy in ‘Interior Worlds: The Art of Margaret Olley’.

Moderated by Katrina Cashman, the panel brings together Dr Emily Gray, Meg Stewart and Jane Watters for a conversation spanning Olley’s art, character and enduring influence on Australian art.

Drawing on their individual connections to Olley’s work and legacy, the discussion will offer a closer look at the artist behind the still lifes, interiors and gardens that have become so recognisable.

The National Art School is pleased to welcome Dr Sarah Rodigari as Head of Sculpture.

Sarah joins the National Art School from the Australian National University's School of Art & Design, bringing extensive experience as an artist, academic and curator, with expertise in contemporary sculpture, performance and spatial practice.

Sarah will commence in September 2026, with Dr Jac Bradley and Dave Horton continuing as Acting Co-Heads of Sculpture in the interim.

We welcome Sarah and look forward to her contribution to the National Art School.
