🥄 Learning to Feed Ourselves 🥄

At Darling Heights, we love giving our Nursery children the chance to feed themselves. It can be messy at times, but those little spills are all part of learning! Self-feeding is an important step in developing independence, confidence, and fine motor skills. By practising these skills daily, the children are becoming more aware of their bodies and learning how to coordinate their movements with purpose.

Through their attempts, the children demonstrate that they are participants in their own learning, showing persistence and pride in their achievements. 🌟

Throughout our centre, children are exploring Key Word Sign, discovering new ways to communicate and connect with those around them. This learning helps them understand and appreciate the diversity of cultures, including Australia’s Deaf community, while strengthening their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

🩷 Celebrating Culture and Community 🩷

We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to share so many meaningful cultural celebrations with our children throughout the year. Guided by the passion and knowledge of our Educators, experiences such as our Diwali celebration gave children the opportunity to learn about different traditions, values and ways of life.

These moments help build understanding, respect and a sense of belonging for every child and family in our community. We are so grateful to our Educators for leading these experiences that makes our centre such a special place. ✨

🎓 Kindergarten Graduation 2025 🎓

Our Kindergarten Graduation yesterday was a really special way to celebrate the end of an important chapter. We’re so proud of our Kindy children and how much they’ve grown this year, in confidence, friendships and independence. It’s been such a joy watching them prepare for school and take this next big step.

Thank you to our Educators for the care and time they put into every child, and to our families for trusting us along the way. We’ll miss our Kindergarten crew, and can’t wait to see all the amazing things ahead! 💛

✨ Kindergarten’s Transition to School ✨

Our Kindy group recently enjoyed a special excursion to Darling Heights School as part of their preparation for big school. We spent time in the library exploring books and practising our “school-ready” skills… but the clear favourite was the playground! The children loved climbing, sliding, and discovering all the fun spaces they’ll get to enjoy next year.

These experiences help Kindergarten build independence, develop a sense of belonging, and become excited for their next adventure! 🌟

🐞 Insect Investigators 🐞

This week the children spent time outdoors diving into a world of insects, magnifying glasses in hand and imaginations switched on! They sorted through lifelike bugs, using scientific tools to take a closer look.

Through touching, observing and talking about what they discovered, the children built on their language, problem-solving and early science skills, all while making connections to the insects they’ve seen in the garden. 🪲

🎖️ Remembrance Day 🎖️

Today our children took part in special experiences to mark Remembrance Day. During one activity, they used recycled bottles and bright red paint to create beautiful poppy-inspired prints to honour and remember the brave men and women who have served our country.

We spoke about how Remembrance Day is a time to pause, to think about those who have helped protect and care for our community, and to remember that peace begins with kindness and understanding.

Lest we forget. ❤️
