On Friday, local Elder Aunty Shas and her niece Katherine spoke to our school about the importance of National Sorry Day and the power of reconciliation. We sincerely thank them for sharing their wisdom, knowledge, and experiences, helping our students and staff deepen their understanding of truth, respect, and coming together as a community. Their words were both inspiring and thought-provoking, and we are grateful for the time they spent with us. Thank you to Janaya D for introducing our special guests.

The 2026 CareWays Reconciliation Walk, guided by the National Reconciliation Week theme “All In,” was a meaningful day of culture, unity, and community, highlighting the importance of reconciliation through respect and coming together. The morning included a smoking ceremony led by Uncle Peter Button, along with Yidaki and clapstick performances, cultural dances, and DHS students singing the Australian National Anthem in Dharawal language. The walk then continued to the Koonawarra Community Centre for a shared meal and celebration. Thank you to Brendan, the CareWays team, and our local community for organising the event, and to Selina for capturing the photos.

Year 11 Community and Family Studies students have been examining leadership styles, power bases and the impact they have on group cohesiveness. Students had to work together to build the tallest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows.
Check out the masterpieces created whilst examining leadership through this lens. Lots of marshmallows were eaten in the process!!
