Congratulations to the students from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who represented St John's at the BlueScope WIN Wollongong Eisteddfod on Tuesday Evening 2 June.

The choir performed beautifully and was awarded a Highly Commended by the adjudicator. The students represented our school with pride and demonstrated outstanding commitment, giving up their lunchtime play every Wednesday for 16 weeks to rehearse.

Their dedication, perseverance and teamwork should be commended, and they should be very proud of their achievement.

A special congratulations to Mrs Edwards, who made her debut as a conductor and did a wonderful job leading the choir.

Thank you also to Miss Conti, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Atkins for so generously giving their time to support our students and attend the evening performance. Your encouragement and commitment are greatly appreciated.

Well done to all involved!
Mrs Sutton

Our students thoroughly enjoyed participating in this yearโ€™s National Simultaneous Storytime, joining children across Australia to share the story Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller. Students were engaged by Luna Rooโ€™s inspiring journey and enjoyed celebrating reading together as part of this nationwide event, which promotes literacy and a love of storytelling.

On Thursday 21 May, our students proudly participated in the Koonawarra Reconciliation Walk event held at Lakeside Reserve, Koonawarra Bay. The occasion brought together hundreds of young people from across the region in a meaningful celebration of culture, reflection and unity. Local Elders led the gathering with a moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, creating an opportunity for students to respectfully reflect on the significance of reconciliation and the shared journey forward. Students also enjoyed watching performances by youth participants, showcasing culture, creativity and community spirit. The event concluded with a Reconciliation Walk, where students joined together in support of reconciliation, reinforcing the importance of understanding, respect and walking together towards a more united future. More wonderful moments from the event will be featured in next weekโ€™s newsletter.

We were delighted to celebrate Motherโ€™s Day with our wonderful mothers and grandmothers at a special gathering held at the school. The celebration began with a beautiful liturgy, followed by a picnic lunch with their children/grandchildren and they also enjoyed delicious slices and a relaxing cup of tea or coffee. The afternoon concluded with open classrooms, giving students the opportunity to proudly share their learning spaces, classwork and the exciting things they have been learning. It was a warm and joyful occasion that celebrated the important role mothers and grandmothers play in the lives of our students and school community.
