What a perfect way to head into Week 8 of Term 2 with our Way Ceremony this morning.
The sun was finally shining, allowing us to come together and celebrate our Way Ceremony outside on Country.
Today's ceremony focused on the Burri Burri. Through the story of Burri Burri, students have been learning about compassion, empathy and thoughtful actions, and how these can be demonstrated through kindness, patience and care for others.
A huge congratulations to all of the students who received an award or bag tag today.
Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us this morning and celebrate alongside us. πππ

πββοΈπββοΈ KPS Athletics Carnival 2026 π
School spirit was on full display today at our Koonawarra Public School Athletics Carnival!
Students participated in high jump, long jump, discus, shot put, distance races and sprints.
The school was a sea of blue, yellow, green and red as students proudly represented their houses. It filled our hearts with pride to see so many parents and family members also dressed in their house colours, cheering from the sidelines and joining in the day's fun.
Congratulations to Gunaagaan, who finished the day with the highest points. ππ
Days like today remind us that KPS is more than just a school β it is a community. Thank you to everyone who came along to support our students. ππππ¦

π National Simultaneous Storytime 2026 π
Today, students across Koonawarra Public School joined millions of children around Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime! β€οΈπ€
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held by the Australian Library and Information Association where schools, libraries, and childcare centres across the country all read the same Australian picture book at the same time to celebrate reading, literacy and imagination. This yearβs story was Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller. π
Students from KPS loved being part of this special Australia-wide event today as they listened along and shared the story together

Today staff from Koonawarra Public School came together with the executive teams from Hayes Park Public School and Kanahooka High School, alongside our Relieving Director Educational Leadership, Tim Fisher, to acknowledge National Sorry Day.
As educators, it is important that we pause and reflect on the impacts of the past, acknowledge the stories and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and continue to create spaces where truth, respect and understanding are valued and shared with future generations.
We are proud to stand together as a community of schools as we reflect, acknowledge, and continue walking forward together. π€πβ€οΈ

Today, 19 of our KPS students represented Koonawarra Public School at the District Cross Country carnival!
With our 8, 9 and 10 year olds tackling a huge 2km course, and our 11 and 12 year olds taking on 3km, it was amazing to see every student give it their all, even with the rain on and off throughout the day. πππ¦π
Mrs Botes and Mr Green were so proud of the way our kiddos represented KPS. Well done, team! ππββοΈπββοΈ
