This week is Bullying No Way Week 2026, with this year’s theme Small Acts, Big Impact. 🐍⭐🐋🦚

Our Bilima students wanted to share this little message. 🐢

At KPS, we know it doesn’t always take a big gesture to make someone feel safe, included, and supported. Sometimes the smallest actions can have the biggest impact. ❤️🖤

Yesterday afternoon, Kanahooka High School kicked off its first Taster Session for 2026, giving Years 4–6 students a chance to see what KHS has to offer!

This week, students explored the English and Performing Arts facilities, met some of the KHS staff, and had a taste of the opportunities awaiting them in the years ahead.

Of course, the KPS teachers didn’t want to miss out on the fun, so a crew headed over after school to join in! ❤️🖤

These opportunities are such an important part of transition. Just like we work hard to help our newest Kindy students feel comfortable and confident starting primary school, our strong connection with Kanahooka High School means our older students can begin that next step, already recognising staff, spaces and the environment around them.

Missed this week? Don’t worry! The next Taster Session is Wednesday 26 August from 3.15–4.15pm, where students can check out the TAS facilities ⚒️.

Thanks, Kanahooka High School, for a fun afternoon.

Today we welcomed some of our Kindy 2027 students to Koonawarra for their very first transition session! ❤️

Our newest little learners, together with their parents and carers, spent the morning in our Kindy classrooms enjoying story time, dancing, craft, and getting their first taste of life at big school.

These transition visits are such an important part of starting school. They give us the chance to get to know our newest students and their families, while helping the children become familiar with our classrooms, our staff and the school environment before their first day next year.

It was great to see so many little faces starting to feel at home at Koonawarra.

We’re looking forward to welcoming them back again next week! ❤️🖤

Tonight is Census Night📋

Across Koonawarra and right around Australia, households are being counted.

If the trickiest part for your family is finding a computer, preferably one with a bit of charge left in it 😄, give our school office a call tomorrow. We’re always happy to help out our community ❤️🖤

It has been a big afternoon at Koonawarra Public School as we celebrated Public Education Week ❤️🖤

This afternoon, we welcomed families into learning spaces for our Excellence Showcase, where parents and students completed activities that students regularly engage in during class. These activities were selected by our students so they could proudly share their learning with families.

More than 50 parents and carers then joined Real Schools facilitator Trish Coelho for a practical workshop exploring some of the tricky behaviours that can present at home and at school. Trish provided families with practical tools and advice to better understand and support their children, highlighting how strong partnerships between home and school support positive outcomes for students.

We finished the evening by coming together for a community dinner.

Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the afternoon such a success. 🦚⭐🐋🐍

This morning, four Koonawarra Public School students proudly represented KPS at the DLC Public Speaking Finals at Lakelands PS.🎤🎤

Each of these KPS legends delivered their speech clearly, calmly and confidently. They represented our school with pride and should be incredibly proud of their achievement. 🐋🐍⭐🦚

A special shout-out to Ethan, who was named runner-up in the Early Stage 1 final! 👏

Did you spot some familiar faces in today’s edition of the Illawarra Mercury? 📰

To mark the beginning of Public Education Week, Koonawarra Public School was proudly featured in today’s edition of the Illawarra Mercury.

At KPS, inspiring excellence means recognising that every child’s journey is different. We create opportunities for each student to discover their strengths, build confidence and write their own story, one page at a time.

We are very excited to continue celebrating Public Education Week this Wednesday afternoon with our Excellence Showcase. ❤️🖤

🌟 100 Days Brighter! 🌟

Our littlest primary school learners have officially completed 100 days of Kindergarten and have certainly brightened KPS along the way! 🩷🩵💛💚

To mark this impressive milestone, our Kindergarten students dressed in bright and colourful clothes and enjoyed a day of crowns, “100” cookies, number games and building creations using 100 pieces. 🎉🎉

The celebrations continued with a family picnic, treats, a colourful paper chain and plenty of fun in Playland.

We are so proud of how much our Kindergarten students have learned and grown during their first 100 days of big school. ❤️🖤

It is hard to believe that it is already time to start thinking about our 2027 Kindergarten students, with transition sessions beginning later this term!

Do you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2027, or know someone who does?
