What is a mother?
In basic terms, a mother is a woman who has given birth to a child or who raises and cares for a child. The idea of “mother” can be understood in a few different ways.
Biologically, figuratively, step parent, adoptive and so on.
Being a mother can go beyond biology and what is hard to define is, what it does to you.
How it can be the best, hardest, most beautiful and completely terrifying thing you’ll ever do all at once.
One moment you can feel overwhelmed, tapped out, exhausted beyond words…
and the next, your child looks at you and you think, “I never knew I could love something this much.”
It’s a constant pendulum swing between:
“Some days I just can’t do this”
and
“I would do absolutely anything for you.”
To the mums doing their best while exhausted… we see you.
To the mums carrying the mental load no one talks about… we see you.
To the mums who feel guilty at drop off, cry in the car, wonder if they’re doing enough, we see you.
We see the late nights.
The early mornings.
The endless cycle of washing, cooking, comforting, organising, sacrificing and loving.
We see the way your child lights up when they talk about you.
The way they reach for you when they’re hurt.
The way your love shapes who they are becoming every single day.
Motherhood isn’t always soft lighting, Instagram worthy and perfect moments.
It’s messy. Emotional. Loud. Lonely sometimes. Beautiful always.
And even on the days you feel like you’re failing.... to your child, you are home.
