The students love the opportunity to dress up and enjoy seeing the staff in theme (the staff were pretty stoked to be able to stay in their pjs for the day too 🤣)

We're excited to advise that we have special guest artist, Gail, joining us for playgroup on Friday! Gail will be here to share her face painting skills with our playgroupers from 9-10:30am.

It's also book week so we invite our littlies to dress up as their favourite character from a book for the day.

Bring a hat, water bottle and a snack.

🌟We did it - AGAIN 🌟

For the second year in a row, DSS has again taken home a trophy at the Makers Empire “Kids in Space”Regional Showcase Awards in Gordonvale today 🚀

Bailee and Harlex represented DSS and presented our team’s design to industry representatives, teachers and students from all around the North.

As part of our STEM program, Braxton, Bailee, Thea, Lara, Emily and Harlex have worked incredibly hard to design a solution to a problem using space technology.

Our little super stars based their design on snippets from a space movie, using faeces to grow food in outer space. They contextualised it to our local area by utilising cassowary and mangrove “poop” to fertilise their plants.

Their design solution and 3D printed models impressed their peers, earning them the Peer Award prize today 🏆

We are so very proud of the sensational way our students have worked as team in the lead up to this day, and the way that they approached this whole project.

A HUGE thank you to the Makers Empire and Kids in Space program for making this possible and to our Super STEM Star, Ms Naomi for facilitating this project and taking our kids today!

Last week, our year 6 students were lucky enough to attend our Cluster Transition Camp at Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre, along with the rest of the year 6’s from the Douglas Cluster.

The students had an amazing time and made some wonderful connections in preparation for high school next year.

We need to say a huge thank you to all the staff from around the cluster who attended this camp, Pete for transporting our students and a special thanks to Mr Barnes from Port Douglas State School P&C Assoc.for his efforts in organising this camp 💜
