The oval works continue to progress throughout the term!

We are now at the stage of covering the topsoil and setting out the bike track around the outer edge of the oval.
The pump for the irrigation system has also been installed, along with the sheds that will eventually house bikes and play equipment for students to access.
It’s exciting to see the progress taking shape, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the works continue.

Our principal, Joe Sandric, had the pleasure of joining the VET Engineering class of Year 9 and 10 this week. As he took over supervision for Mr Seth Antcliffe, the students' usual teacher, he was in awe of the students' skills and dedication. A big shout goes to our two Utility Officers, Mr Damien Burnett and Mr Steve Gann, who assist the students in their skills development.

What is the collective noun for a group of ex-students of the college, now working in the college, and sitting in the Staff Room having lunch? Not sure, but it should be a "pleasure"! Oh, what a pleasure it is to have Ava, Bianca, Lola, Michelle and Jane back at the college, having an influence on the next generation of graduates at their old school.

Today, after Recess, we conducted a practice fire drill. It's a WH&S expectation of Catholic Education Tasmania that we conduct two lockdown drills and two fire drills each year. As always, the students were very efficient, but this term was a bit unusual as we assembled in Loogana Park instead of the Oval, due to all the earthworks occurring there.

Today, the Year 9 and 10 students had their annual retreat. The theme was "Who is my neighbour?" Students heard from Fr Warren on the Beatitudes, learnt more about Modern Slavery, and did activities such as Prayer Spaces and the 100 Hearts Project. Thank you again to Mrs Leanne Prichard for running the day, Fr Warren for presenting, and Mrs Sarah Peters for organising the day.

Today our year 9/10 Aboriginal Studies class enjoyed a wonderful day on Lunawanna Alonnah (Bruny Island ) with cultural knowledge sharer Trent Prouse from SETAC. (Southeast Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation). We had an opportunity to learn about the sustainable harvest and traditional uses of tools such as waddies and digging sticks.

We commend students for their respectful engagement during the day and look forward to completing their tools during the coming weeks.

Our Year 5/6 Blue team came away as the Court 3 winners at Tuesday’s Huon & Channel Schools Sports Association Volleyball Carnival at Margate Primary School! A fantastic achievement from the team after a brilliant day of volleyball.

A special congratulations also goes to Ellie and Annika, who were awarded special certificates for their fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day. A wonderful recognition of the way they represented St James both on and off the court!

A huge thank you to Miss Lloyd, who coached our winning Blue team, as well as Miss Newland, who coached 5/6 Gold, and Cathy, who coached 5/6 Red. We are very grateful for the time, encouragement and support they gave our students throughout the day.

Thank you also to Margate Primary School for hosting such a fantastic carnival and providing a wonderful day for everyone involved.
