Times pass, people mature, learn, grow with a time and a place for change. I have travelled with Grosvenor Consultants for many years joining when my parents owned the business and taking it over on their retirement. I have enjoyed my time working under its guise but with the passing of my father last year it was time for reflection.

I have long had an interest in career development and how career matures and changes overtime always presenting new things to learn, new people to learn from or who want to learn with you, new roles, new challenges and new possibilities in our ever changing world. I am now a grandmother and a professional women, with a love of living things, food and flowers, and the beauty in our world. I have a life long respect for the work of good teachers and value excellence in education, recognising the importance of education in enriching human existence.

So a new name for the next stage in my business life:

To all my teaching friends and colleagues - please go have a look at the survey in this article. I have long maintained that every teacher is a careers teacher - surely we are educating our young people, from day one, to make the most of their journey through life? We help give them the skills and knowledge to participate in society, make their own decisions, take responsibility, question what they see happening around them, be problem identifiers and problem solvers, to be critical thinkers and much more that makes them assets in the workforce or in their own business.

We also expose them to different facets of the world of work from playing dress ups in kinder through to participating in excursions that introduce jobs of all varieties, or researching the contribution of different individuals to our subject area and to our world. Yes I believe that we need specialist careers teachers but they need to be supported by, and support, every other teacher in the school, the teachers in their feeder schools and the ancillary staff, who all have a part to play working with parents to prepare children for life as positive, functioning, contributing adults!

There are few activities that can tempt school children to put down their phones, but a paper plane competition in Sydney seems to be one of them.
