Scribbling is such a fun, freeing way to build volume — no need for perfect lines! The idea is simple: instead of hatching or blending, you let loose with loose, overlapping scribbles. Pile them up more densely in the shadow areas of an object, and keep them lighter and more open where light hits. The overlap creates natural dark zones and the eye fills in the rest. It works beautifully on spheres, fabric folds, faces — really anything!

The key is all in density — start light and open across the whole form, then layer more scribbles into the areas that face away from your light source.

The more passes you add, the darker and heavier that zone feels. You don't need to be precise; the looseness is actually what gives it life and energy. Give it a try with just a ballpoint pen on any object or figure — you'll be amazed how quickly it starts to pop! 🎨

Hi, I’m Paul — an art coach based in Tasmania. I work online with young people one-on-one, helping them build real art skills, find their creative voice, and grow in confidence at their own pace.
I understand that a standard classroom environment doesn’t work for every learner — and I’ve built my sessions around that. I have experience in supporting young artists, including neurodivergent students. Spicy is fine!

WHAT MAKES INKY DIFFERENT
