At Currimundi Community Kindergarten we love to notice the changes in our natural environment. Our maple leaves resemble flames, our rosella is flowering and fruiting but our mulberry tree is bare in winter! 🍁 🔥

Winter has arrived, and a good way add variety to meals, while also saving at the check-out, is to buy what’s in season. We all know citrus is bursting with Vitamin C to help strengthen immunity, but did you know that pears are a great way to keep digestion systems regular? They’re packed with fibre, and also contain sorbitol, a natural, gentle laxative! They travel well as a whole fruit, and are just as delicious raw as they are softly poached as a warm dessert, or baked into a cake or crumble for a cheeky afternoon treat.

A big thank you to Beck and Cynthia for visiting Kindy to tell us about the wonderful work OzHarvest do. We went away with some great tips to reduce food waste and Kindy donated a bag of groceries to go to those in need. Community in action 💚

Currimundi Kindy staff enjoyed a day at the Sandstone Point conference on Saturday. We were inspired to consider slow curriculum, expand our strategies to support behaviour and consider our role in reconciliation.

Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of listening to the inspiring speaker, Catherine Hydon, discuss slow pedagogy in early childhood education at our Bribie Island Mini Conference. During this session, we explored the principles of slow pedagogy and how to apply them in context, and the key ideas that shape our everyday practice.

The session was incredibly eye-opening and reminded us of the value in pausing, observing, and truly listening. Not just to children, but to ourselves and those around us.

At Kindy we have been observing the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly. We observed caterpillars spin their chrysalis, watched in awe as the butterflies emerged and yesterday we released the butterflies who fed on flowers from our butterfly plant which was donated by a Kindy family. 🐛 🦋 💜

The Federal Court has formally recognised the Kabi Kabi people as native title holders over 365,345 hectares of land and water on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

A determination by Justice Berna Collier at a special hearing in Brisbane on Monday recognised the Kabi Kabi people’s non-exclusive rights to an area including Gympie, Noosa, Maroochydore, Caloundra, Bribie Island and Mudjimba Island.

The determination marks the first occasion on Australia’s east coast when native title has been recognised in a heavily urbanised area.

Kabi Kabi Traditional Owner Brian Warner said it had been a long and “arduous” process to achieve recognition.

“I feel exhausted, as well as elated,” he said.

“This has been nearly 30 years ... and it’s just not one family, it’s 20 family groups all together.

“Many of the people have been here from very start but we have lost a lot of Elders along the way.

“So it’s very emotional — we’re mourning the ones we lost but celebrating our future and our people.”
