The MVAC Book Character parade is always a hit! The playground transforms into a place of magic and adventure as students bring all sorts of characters to life. From dancers to dinosaurs, animals of all kinds, and of course the most famous characters of all Harry and Wally all come out to play. We think Wally could be found in every class this year! We were so lucky!

Laughs aside, the Children's Book Council of Australia has been running Book Week for over 80 years. Each year, they choose a theme that sparks excitement and love for reading. This year's theme was 'A Symphony of Stories'. The word symphony comes from Greek roots meaning "sounding together". It can also refer to a collection of different elements that harmonise beautifully, much like our parade today. Many different costumes joining together to create one large symphony of stories!

Book Week encourages children to imagine, explore, and create their own story. The MVAC library is always a place where students can always find a symphony of stories.

We hope everyone enjoyed visiting us for the day and exploring the classrooms. We really enjoyed having you all!

More photos will be uploaded into the MVAC photo gallery.

Our Stage 3 team had a wonderful day at the Maitland soccer gala, finishing the group stage with 2 wins, 1 draw, and just 1 loss. Their fifth game was an exciting match that went to an 8-penalty shootout!

Although they narrowly missed out on the win, reports back say that the students demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done to everyone involved.

National Science Week takes place across Australia from Saturday 15 August to Sunday 23 August 2026. The official school and national theme is "Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all," focusing on curiosity, inquiry, and growing shared scientific understanding.

This week at MVAC there was Science action across Junior and Senior School. From Monday to Wednesday the E1 Science room was a hive of activity. From dry ice experiments to the famous Van de Graaff generator, Senior Science teachers had the whole school intrigued.

Today our Junior School Students were treated to a whole day of science activities. Classes were designed to suit each learning stage in different science labs. Students students were able to create a bird feeder, explore the seed art, enter the Nature studio, or create in the engineering lab.

We thank our teaching staff for their dedication to going above and beyond to create these special learning moments and embracing the importance of Science Week. We certainly believe there were many Seeds of Science planted this week.

Congratulations Jack M #5

After a fantastic selection process Jack has finished his journey representing NSW in jersey number 5 last week at the School Sport Australia Rugby League Championships.

NSW walked away as runners-up after a hard fought final against QLD.

Representing NSW at a national level is a significant achievement and a wonderful opportunity for a young athlete. Jack’s selection reflects not only his talent and skill on the rugby league field, but also his hard work, determination, sportsmanship and commitment to his team.

We are extremely proud of Jack and his achievements. We look forward to seeing what his future holds.

A huge thank you to Mid Coast Christian College for joining us for another fantastic friendly match! This lovely competition has developed over the past few years. It's a wonderful way to introduce our students to competitive sport in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Our Senior students did a great job of stepping up to umpire the games throughout the day.

Thank you to all the parents that came along today to support their children. We were blessed with much better weather this time around.

More photos from today will uploaded into eMpower for parents and carers to view.

Four students travelled to Macksville yesterday to participate in the NSW Parliament Youth Forum. Students engaged in robust discussion about topics affecting young people, including community resources, cost of living, social media and mental health, and acceptance and inclusion in the community.

The MVAC students made some insightful points about these issues and posed questions to a range of Members of Parliament.

Each school was able to nominate one student to participate in the public speaking competition component of the day. We are very proud of Ruby A, who was awarded one of two runner-up positions out of 24 students with her compelling and thought-provoking speech about the dangers of having an 'unread self'.

All four students, Ruby A, Ava F, Rahni C and Hannah A represented MVAC exceptionally well and were incredibly supportive and encouraging of all other students present.
