I know, I know. We've only just entered February and already we are talking about classes on offer in March.

But that's because we're mid-way through our Beginner Drawing classes, our Colour Drawing classes and our Watercolour classes which continue on in February.

But March....March is when new classes arrive, when our first Oil Painting course and Gouache classes start for the year. And you can book in now to save your seat.

Often people are scared of oil painting. They think it's for "advanced artists".

They imagine something intimidating: large canvases, expensive brushes, complicated techniques, and artists who have been painting for decades. Many beginners shy away, thinking they have to master the other mediums first.

It's simply not true.

Oil painting is not a secret club for advanced artists. It is a medium that welcomes curiosity, patience, and a willingness to experiment - all qualities that beginner artists already have.

Oil paint has a flexibility that makes it forgiving and incredibly rewarding for learners. Mistakes can be corrected, layers can be built slowly, and every brushstroke is a chance to explore colour, texture, and technique. The medium doesn’t require perfection at all. Every stroke can be rubbed off, scraped back and painted over (unlike watercolour!)

But there are a few things that are helpful to know. So that's what we cover in our oil painting course: how paint behaves, how to mix colours, how to apply layers, and how to make painting in ANY medium easy.

Our oil painting course runs on Sundays in Murwillumbah. Our next dates are:

Here's another example of what can be achieved with gouache paint.

We created this little artwork in last year's gouache class. It's much easier to use than watercolour and much more forgiving yet it still has the fluidity (and health consciousness) of watercolour.

Today's the day!

Our watercolour classes and beginner drawing classes start today!!!

I wanted to wish all of our students the very best first class for the year!

If you're feeling nervous - don't worry! That's normal! (for students and our artist teachers!)

Remember: you don’t need to be “good” to be here. You don’t need to know all the rules, or be able to draw perfectly, or have a style already. This class isn’t about proving anything. It’s about exploring, learning, and having fun with art.

You’re here to try, to experiment, and to give yourself the permission to make mistakes. Those “mistakes” are actually where the learning happens. Every line, every colour, every brushstroke teaches you something new.

You might be surprised at how quickly you start to feel more confident and how much joy comes from simply creating, step by step. There’s no rush, no pressure, just the freedom to discover your own way of making art.

So take a deep breath, trust yourself, and just start. We’re excited to see what you create, and we promise, you’re going to have fun along the way.

Here's an example of what can be achieved with gouache. We created this artwork (based off one of my watercolour paintings) in gouache class last year.

Gouache is MUCH easier than watercolour AND it can be used to paint light over dark (unlike watercolour) so it's much more forgiving and versatile. You can fix your mistakes (unlike watercolour where you only get ONE CHANCE!!!)

We are running 2 week gouache courses on Thursdays 9:45-11:45am in Murwilumbah. Our next dates are:

26 March & 2 April (2 weeks)

23 & 30 April (2 weeks)
