School TV Special Report: Building Belonging Post Pandemic

Having a sense of belonging involves more than simply knowing other people. It is also focused on gaining acceptance, attention and support from others, as well as having the opportunity to provide the same to other people.

As a result of the pandemic, there are still many young people struggling to connect and regain their sense of belonging. This Special Report provides guidance to families who find themselves in this situation. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help.

The P&C have kindly funded two new ipads and stands for the West Street and Pacific libraries. The libraries now have an easy way to view the catalogue and search Oliver to find and locate all books and ebooks. These kiosks will make it simple for students to locate whatever resource they are looking for! We have a great selection of PRC books as well as many other reading for pleasure books and other resources to support the curriculum. Thanks to the P&C for their generosity.

ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM!
Year 10 Japanese had the pleasure of doing a live ZOOMing with their Penpal buddies from Japan (Hirata Seifu JS)! There were two different sessions, both of which were very たのしい (fun) and おもしろい (interesting). Shiritori was the favourite game of the day. Students wracked their brains for words that started with the same Hiragana that had ended the previous word.
We showed off our drawing skills on Gimkit but they amazed us more with their attention to detail. They wrote about us in their blog too! You can see it here https://hiratajupialish.blogspot.com/2022/07/summer-english-internationalexchange.html?m=1&fbclid=IwAR3RHDGuidLtRB1PToUHYtpcPR5bAYYVgKsuwUP9Ohyj122EreQHFALdPlg
Very much looking forward to our next online meeting!

SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to recognise and learn more about the history and culture of indigenous communities.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, when on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Today, it is a week-long celebration held in July that consists of range of traditional and contemporary activities.

NAIDOC Week is an important event that helps build positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. It enables a deeper understanding of our differences and similarities. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to eliminate bias and discrimination by reflecting and reconciling the wrongs of the past to facilitate hope and build a fairer future. Families are encouraged to join in and support young people in learning the significance of NAIDOC Week.

This Special Report offers suggestions on how families can celebrate NAIDOC Week together. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help.

Well done to all of the musicians who performed at Music Night! The two matinee performances held for Yr 7-10 were really enjoyable and it was great to perform for the school. It was followed by an exceptional night of music making which was supported beautifully by the fabulous artworks.
Thank you to the P&C who donated a new marimba and set of two timpani which arrived just in time for the performance.

Thank you as well to Big Music Shop for donating such a generous raffle prize which will no doubt provide an enriching experience for the lucky winner!

Congratulations to everyone involved!
