Wonderful to spend a morning presenting to such a thoughtful group of CPOs and senior HR leaders exploring Relationship Capital as a Leadership Advantage.

We spoke about the shift from collecting contacts to intentionally building relationship ecosystems that create long term value, opportunity and human connection.

A big thank you to Chris Whittock and the Harrier Talent Solutions team for the invitation and to Jenna Doecke for the warm hospitality, and to everyone in the room for the generous conversations and insights shared throughout the session.

These conversations are becoming more important than ever. If you’d like to explore a similar session for your leaders or teams, feel free to reach out.

We’ve reframed networking as relationship craftsmanship; a disciplined set of practical, repeatable practices that deliver real business outcomes.

It starts with listening rituals, moves into purposeful outreach, and is sustained through consistent follow-up habits.

Relatus capability programs show participants build higher quality professional connections and unlock greater collaboration across their ecosystem.

The real shift isn’t in meeting more people, it’s in what you turn those interactions into.

Networking with intent changes outcomes.

Try these three micro-behaviours this week:
1) Use a listening prompt, ask “What’s most important for you right now?” and stay curious.
2) Follow-up, make it a ritual, send a touch point within 48-hours honouring the mutually agreed next step.
3) Value-first outreach; share a helpful resource before asking for anything.

At Relatus we turn these tactics into repeatable competency through targeted training and measurable metrics, so individuals and teams convert connections into real career and business impact.

Stop Collecting Contacts. Start Building Capital. 02/03/2026

Are you building relationships… or just collecting contacts?

I wrote this piece as a prompt to pause and reflect on how intentional we really are with our networks.

If you’ve ever felt like your network should be delivering more value, influence or opportunity, this one’s worth a few minutes of your time.

Have a read and see what resonates...

Stop Collecting Contacts. Start Building Capital. You have hundreds of names in your contact list. LinkedIn connections in the thousands. Business cards stored in drawers and conference apps still sitting on your phone. So why does it still feel like you are doing it alone? After more than twenty years working in this space, one pattern keeps showin...

Kindness is the heartbeat of human connection 💛. It invites us to pause, to listen, and to respond with empathy and awareness.

At Relatus, we believe kindness brings both emotional intelligence and relational intelligence to life. It’s the bridge between understanding ourselves and truly connecting with others, the spark that turns everyday interactions into meaningful relationships.

Today, we’re joining the call to make kindness visible. Take a moment to make your pledge of kindness; a simple act that can create a lasting ripple of connection and care.

Another inspiring chapter in our partnership with the University of Newcastle as we wrapped up this year’s Relationship Networking Program (RNP) 🎓💫

Over the past six months, researchers from across disciplines have been working with Julia Palmer, to strengthen their relational intelligence; learn how to connect with confidence, communicate with impact, and collaborate with purpose.

What stood out most this year was the shift in strategy and self-awareness. Across the cohort, participants more than doubled their ability to take a strategic approach to managing their professional networks, a skill that continues to shape collaboration, visibility, and research impact long after the program ends.

Here’s what some of this year’s participants had to say...

“I now consciously integrate networking into my role rather than leaving it to chance.”

“The program has drawn my attention to the need to actively and strategically develop relationships - especially for those of us who are introverts.”

“It’s helped me recognise that even as an introvert, I can develop and strengthen these skills. My presence in groups has improved through better communication, active listening, and credibility and I’m realising how essential social capital is in an age of AI.”

"The overall impact of the program for me has been that it encouraged me to rethink how I approach relationships, to value them strategically and prioritise maintaining them more effectively."

"I’ve become much more intentional in my networking approach."

A huge thank you to Warwick Dawson for continuing to champion this important capability, congratulations to this year’s incredible participants for their openness, curiosity, and shared learning. Finally our heartfelt gratitude to Renee Butcher for organising us all :)
