Sometimes one experience can change the way a young person sees their future.
During this year’s Ag Vet Course, students took part in a butcher demonstration as part of their hands-on learning.
Before the excursion, only one student had considered butchery as a possible career. Afterwards, another four or five students said it was now a pathway they would consider.
That is why these excursions matter.
When students meet people working in agriculture, see their skills firsthand and have the opportunity to ask questions, careers they may never have considered suddenly become real possibilities.
Agriculture needs vets, butchers, livestock specialists, technicians, scientists, educators, machinery operators and many other skilled people. Our role is to open the gate and let young people see where they could belong.
