SASS Appreciation Week
The school administrative and support staff (SASS) are the heart and soul of any successful school. We are so blessed at Crookwell High School to have SASS staff that love their job, our school, and our students. As teachers, we owe so much to their support and hard work. This SASS Appreciation Week, we thought we would give our SASS staff a surprise morning tea in appreciation of all the amazing work they do.
Thank You!

NSW Merino Challenge
On the 10th - 12th August our Year 10 Agriculture students travelled to Dubbo for the NSW Merino Challenge. Despite our best efforts to keep our wethers dry, they got off the trailer looking like they had been inside a hurricane for 5 hours. Even though our sheep were wet the students spirits were not dampened! After a lengthy blow dry and any trick we could pull out, they were ready to show. It was a wonderful 3 days where students networked with industry leaders, mingled with other students and learnt a whole lot about the merino industry and themselves. At the end of show we walked away with second in Zone 2 for fleece value. With our heads held high we headed home, ready to come back with a vengeance in 2027.
A huge shoutout to Marli who entered in the junior judging competition associated with the Dubbo National Ram Show & Sale all on her own back and did a great job.
We would also like to thank Conqueror Milling for their on going support and supply of feed for our show team and Red Dirt Apparel for our snazzy new show shirts.

Science Roadshow Finale: Inspiring Crookwell Public Kindergarten Students
Year 9 Science students final Roadshow visit was with the Crookwell Public School kindergarten students to spark curiosity and inspire a love for science. Through fun, hands-on activities, they introduced young learners to basic scientific concepts, encouraging exploration and discovery. This visit fostered a nurturing environment where the kindergarten students eagerly engaged with experiments, developing their natural sense of wonder about the world around them. The interaction also provided valuable leadership opportunities for the Year 9 students, strengthening community ties and promoting a culture of science education across generations. Together, they cultivated excitement for learning that will continue to grow.

Westwords Creative Writers Book Launch
This year we celebrated Book Week with a fantastic book launch of our students work. During Term 2, ten eager writers joined creative writing workshops with author Kaaron Warren. Over the six workshops students developed their ability to create characters, develop a plot and find their own unique voice as writers. Through the support of Westwords, our students had the exciting honour of having their work included in a professionally published book titled 'Walls'. This year we were lucky to collaborate with students and staff from Crookwell Public School to have a combined book launch. During the launch there were some speeches, readings of selected work, author signing and a scrumptious afternoon tea to share with family and friends. I am very proud to provide this opportunity for our young writers. Our students inspire me through their enthusiasm for creative writing. I encourage all students to keep passionate about doing their best at CHS!

Luka Lesson Book Week Guest Author
This week we hosted acclaimed slam poet, Luka Lesson as part of our Book Week celebrations. Luka conducted an engaging performance of his poetry to the whole school. He fielded questions from the audience and shared some great inspiration for our young writers. Luka gave some great advice encouraging students to be vulnerable and authentic in their writing. Throughout the day, Luka also held workshops with a self-nominated group of writers. All participants were energised and motivated to write using Luka's experienced advice on how to write poetry. Furthermore, our senior English students were able to gain beneficial advice on how to improve the craft of writing for the HSC. Across the whole school, many students and staff have shared how entertaining and meaningful our guest authors' visit to our school had been. Thanks to Luka for an exhilarating day!

Science Roadshow Rolls On: Sparking Curiosity
Next stop on the Science Roadshow for National Science Week - "Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All" – saw our enthusiastic Year 9 Science students visit Crookwell Early Learning Centre. This wonderful initiative continued to foster a deep passion for science education by engaging young learners through hands-on experiments and interactive activities.
Our Year 9 students demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills as they connected with the preschool students, nurturing curiosity and excitement for scientific discovery across generations. These meaningful interactions not only inspired the youngest learners but also enriched the experiences of both age groups, strengthening the bonds within our community.
