Some of the Sutherland Shire’s highest-rated childcare and early education services have been revealed, with several local centres achieving an “Exceeding National Quality Standard” rating across every area assessed.

The ratings are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority, with services assessed across seven areas including education programs, children’s health and safety, staffing, relationships with children, family and community partnerships, the physical environment and leadership.

Among the strongest performers is Cronulla Preschool Kindergarten, which is currently rated Exceeding in all seven quality areas.

The Nicholson Parade preschool received its current overall Exceeding rating in August 2023 and was most recently visited by the regulatory authority in May this year. It also achieved Exceeding ratings across all seven areas during its previous assessment in 2018.

Franklin Road Early Education Centre at Woolooware has also achieved Exceeding ratings across all seven areas.

The Sutherland Shire Council-run centre is rated Exceeding overall and recorded the same seven-out-of-seven result during its previous assessment.

Another standout is SCOOSH Inc at Cronulla South Public School, which provides before and after-school care.

SCOOSH is currently rated Exceeding in every one of the seven National Quality Standard areas, improving on its previous assessment when five areas were rated Exceeding.

Several other centres across the Shire have also recorded particularly strong results.

Fauna Place Early Education Centre at Kirrawee is rated Exceeding overall, with six of its seven quality areas rated Exceeding following its latest assessment in June 2025.

Dianella Street Early Education Centre at Caringbah has also achieved Exceeding ratings in six of the seven areas and is rated Exceeding overall.

At Cronulla, Waratah Street Early Education Centre is rated Exceeding overall, with four individual quality areas rated Exceeding.

Little Darlings Child Care Centre at Caringbah also holds an overall Exceeding rating, including Exceeding results for its educational program, children’s health and safety, relationships with children and partnerships with families and the community.

At Sylvania, Canberra Road Early Education Centre is rated Exceeding overall, while Bradman Road Early Education Centre at Menai is also currently listed by ACECQA as an Exceeding service.

Bright Futures Early Learning Centre at Menai is another local service currently carrying an overall Exceeding National Quality Standard rating.

Under the national system, a service must meet the standard in every quality area and exceed it in at least four of the seven areas to receive an overall Exceeding rating.

Services that achieve Exceeding ratings in all seven areas can go a step further and apply to ACECQA for the separate “Excellent” rating, the highest recognition available under the National Quality Framework.

The results show a number of childcare, preschool and outside-school-hours-care services across the Sutherland Shire performing above the national quality standard, including several achieving the highest possible result across every area of their regular assessment.

🤍Keep little ones within arm's reach around any water, pool or beach

🤍 If your child is not already in a learn to swim program, the holidays are a great time to start

𝗡𝗼 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀. 𝗡𝗼 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗨𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁.

This month our Director Janene Rox joined Preschool Ambassadors and the IEU at NSW Parliament House, meeting with MPs from across the political spectrum - including Mark Speakman, Sarah Mitchell, Natasha Maclaren-Jones, Justin Clancy, and members of the Liberals, Nationals and Greens.

They listened. Deputy Premier Car has not.

It's late September and community preschools still have no funding guidelines or figures for the new model starting in 2027, so we can't plan for next year. Car has also repeatedly declined to meet with the campaign to discuss it.

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆!

We are excited to share that building works on our major veranda extension will begin on Monday 28 September, right at the start of the school holidays.

This project has been a long time in the making, and after years of saving , planning ongoing consultation with Council’s property team, the architect and the builder, it is finally happening.

You can see the architect’s vision for the new space, along with the current “before” photos, in the image we have shared. These are also displayed in our foyer for families, and we have loved hearing your thoughts and questions as we get ready for the build.

The extension will help us create a more supportive and inclusive environment, particularly for neurodivergent children, while providing a free-flowing indoor–outdoor playspace that promotes active supervision and enhances children’s learning and wellbeing.

We are also aiming to setting up a time lapse camera to capture the build from start to finish, carefully positioned so no children are ever visible. We will share progress updates throughout the project so the community can follow along.

We cannot wait to see this come to life!

We appreciate Mark Speakman for taking the time to continue meeting with us, demonstrating a strong interest in the ongoing steps as we work towards securing better funding from the State Government to improve pay and conditions for our teachers and educators. Sadly the latest press release from Prue Car MP looks more like a pay cut ! Prue please explain!

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Yesterday afternoon we hosted a professional development workshop here at Cronulla Preschool called Tuning in to Interoception: the hidden component of regulation, facilitated by the KU Sector Capacity Building Program (KU Children's Services )

Interoception is the internal sensory system that helps children recognise what their bodies are feeling. It is a key foundation for emotional regulation. Many educators are familiar with the basics, but this workshop explored deeper and more advanced thinking about how children develop these skills.

Educators from services across the area joined us for an afternoon of learning and networking. It was a great opportunity to explore practical, play based strategies that support children’s emotional regulation in meaningful ways.

A big thank you to everyone who attended. We hope the ideas and strategies shared today support your work back in your own services and communities.

𝗥 𝗨 𝗢𝗞? 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆 💛

We teach our children every day that it's okay to name how they're feeling and to ask for help - it's at the heart of everything we do through the Resilience Project. Today, we're turning that same care inward, for the people who show up for our children every day: our educators.

Asking R U OK? doesn't need to be complicated - just ask, listen, encourage action, and check in. Four simple steps that can turn into a conversation that really helps. We're pairing that with Action for Happiness's Self-Care September calendar, small, doable daily prompts we're using with our own team all month to keep checking in with each other, not just today.

This week, as a small token of gratitude for everything our educators give, our management committee is also handing out thank-you vouchers to the team, celebrating Early Childhood Educators' Day a little later than planned, but no less heartfelt.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆! 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 💙

Last week our children got busy in the kitchen, cooking up something special to take home for the dads, grandads and father figures in their lives - and putting together some very heartfelt gift bags and cards along the way.

And don't forget - it's Family Movie Night tonight! We hope to see lots of you there for popcorn, cosy rugs under the stars, and a well-earned night off the cooking.

To all the dads and father figures in our Cronulla Preschool community - we hope your day is filled with love, mess, and a well-earned cuddle. Happy Father's Day! 💙

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵! 🐨💚

September is Save the Koala Month - and at Cronulla Preschool, it is one of our favourite times of year!

Each of our three classrooms adopts a koala through the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie - Australia's first dedicated koala hospital - so we have three special little residents our children get to follow and champion all year round. Our adoptions help fund the rescue, rehabilitation, and care of injured wild koalas. 🐨❤️

It is also a great opportunity to learn some really fascinating things about these animals. Did you know koalas do not just eat any eucalyptus leaves? They are actually very selective - they rely on specific species of gum trees for food and shelter. And with koalas now listed as Endangered in New South Wales (including some recent sightings right here near us in Heathcote National Park!), protecting those trees matters more than ever.
