Some things you can do to help support your child.
Talk with the school and advocate for literacy teaching and support that is:
•Explicit directly teaches literacy skills
•Systematic and cumulative has a defined and logical sequence
•Structured has step-by-step procedures for introducing, reviewing, and practicing concepts
At home:
•Find ways to help your child connect letters to sounds in everyday activities.
•Introduce your child to audiobooks. Their reading level may be below their reading age so audiobooks are a great way to access stories.
•Support your child with their reading at home and talk about their achievements so they can see how they have improved and have a sense of positivity about other strengths they may have.
