❓ What happens when a group of parents refuse to accept that their children are β€œjust struggling readers”?

πŸŽ¬πŸ“š Now Streaming in the DyslexAbility Media Lounge: Our Dyslexic Children (2020)

Directed by Aaron Blevins and written by Kelli Trinoskey, this powerful community-funded documentary tells the true story of a group of parents in Ohio who discovered their children’s dyslexia was going unidentified and unsupported within the school system.
Rather than accepting the status quo, they came together to advocate for change. Their efforts led to significant improvements in how dyslexia was identified and supported, ultimately helping shape an early literacy model that gained national recognition.

More than a documentary about dyslexia, Our Dyslexic Children is a story about advocacy, persistence, and the difference that evidence-based instruction can make in a child’s life.

One message from the film continues to resonate:
πŸ’› β€œInstruction that is good for our dyslexic children is good for all children.”

Whether you’re a parent, educator, allied health professional, or someone wanting to better understand dyslexia, this is a film well worth watching.

πŸ’›πŸŒŸ Meet Caleb πŸŒŸπŸ’›

For the past four years, Caleb has been part of the DyslexAbility family, attending weekly literacy sessions and growing not only in his learning, but in his confidence as well.

Now 10 years old, Caleb reflects on his journey with us, sharing what he has learnt along the way and speaking proudly about the support he has received from his practitioner, Deb. πŸ’›

Of course, no Caleb interview would be complete without a special mention of Frankie 🐾 β€” and an exclusive reveal about Tom’s secret technique for clipping Frankie’s nails (at home)!

Watching Caleb grow into the confident, capable young person he is today has been an absolute privilege. We are so proud of everything he has achieved and the determination he continues to bring to his learning journey.

It has also been wonderful to support the wider family, with Caleb’s brother Ethan having successfully completed his own DyslexAbility journey.

Thank you, Caleb, for sharing your story with us. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. 🌟

🧱✨ Why do we love LEGO at DyslexAbility? Because it supports so much more than creativity.

For many students, LEGO becomes a space to create, reset, problem-solve, and explore β€” all while building important skills through hands-on play. πŸ’›

Through LEGO, students can strengthen:
🧠 Sequencing & visual-spatial thinking
🎯 Focus & persistence
πŸ– Fine motor development
πŸ’¬ Communication & teamwork
✨ Creativity & imagination

Our LEGO table has become a favourite space within DyslexAbility β€” and not just for the students… Frankie loves supervising too. 🐾

We also love seeing the incredible LEGO creations designed by our Key Life Learning students over the years, each one reflecting patience, confidence, and personality.

Because sometimes the biggest learning happens one brick at a time. πŸ§±πŸ’›

🎨✨ β€œEvery child is an artist.” – Pablo Picasso

Creativity looks different for every learner β€” and at DyslexAbility, we believe it deserves to be celebrated. πŸ’›

Through art, students can express ideas, emotions, imagination, and confidence in ways that words sometimes cannot. Whether it’s colour, texture, movement, or design, creativity opens the door to connection, self-expression, and growth.

Our Heart to Art sessions encourage students to explore freely, create boldly, and discover that there is no single β€œright way” to be creative. 🌈

Because every child deserves the opportunity to feel capable, seen, and proud of what they create. ✨
