Strong turnout this morning, especially given school holidays have started 😁👍

After an energetic warm up, it was back to the pool noodles to practice keeping our hands in front and lifting our knees before pushing our feet out for front kick.

We moved on to targeting our partners with kicks before lower grades broke off to go through not only basics but also advanced techniques🥋.

Higher grades worked through all of their known katas, from First Kata to Bassai Dai, before workshopping their grading katas in groups🥋.

Congratulations to Hanah, who attained 8th kyu and to Tuheed and Zahra, awarded certificates for focus and effort 💪👊

Tuesday Champs worked on their legs tonight, starting with Sumo stance while keeping the beat to Queen's 'We will rock you' before using pool noodles to practice getting our knees up high before putting our kicks out there. We used noodles again to practice blocks in stance before finishing off with kata.

Congratulations to Adhvik who attained 9th kyu (yellow tip) while certificates for focus and effort went to Yasmin (Happy Birthday) and Emily.

Unfortunately, there was a dearth of students for the second class - where have you all gone??? I know the weather has been a little ordinary lately but please, come back 😢

We miss you 😉

A bit of a different class today.
After a normal warm up, the class dropped into sumo and clapped our hands to the beat of Queen's 'We Will Rock You'. We paired up and used pool noodles to practice getting our knees nice and high before executing Mae Geri (Front Kick).
Another noodle activity had the pairs practising blocks before it was back to the floor, cranking Queen again while we held our feet up off the floor and clapped in time. Excellent core work out 😁
We finished class off with the Sally Squat challenge while practicing our punchies.
Certificates for effort and focus went to Zahra and Isla, while congratulations to Annabel who attained her Orange Tip (7th kyu ho)

In mid-June, several of our Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian senior group volunteered to complete a Homes set-up with our charity partner, RizeUp Australia.

RizeUp provides all the practical items needed for victim-survivors of family and domestic violence to make a fresh start, including furniture and other household items that help transform empty houses into homes.

When each of our GKR teams arrived at their location, they were greeted by a RizeUp driver, an empty house and a truck filled with flatpacks and homewares. The teams set about unloading the truck, assembling the flatpacks, making beds, filling pantries and carefully decorating the space. This included fitting out children’s bedrooms and providing them with the materials needed to start at a new school.

After 4+ hours of work at each location, the transformation from house to home left a lasting memory for all involved. With the knowledge that a family would be entering their newly furnished home in the coming days, each team member took comfort in knowing that they had helped create a new beginning for someone in need.

We are incredibly grateful to RizeUp for the work they do and for the opportunity to be involved in their Homes program. We also appreciate the amazing support shown by all of our students and instructors who participate in the Stop Domestic & Family Violence Purple Belt Campaign. Your involvement means a lot, not only to RizeUp and the families they help, but also to GKR Karate as a whole.

If you would like to volunteer with RizeUp to help setting up Homes, information can be found here https://www.rizeup.com.au/volunteer
