A number hunt in the sand is a fun, hands-on learning experience where children search for hidden numbers.

It combines sensory exploration with early numeracy learning.

In our Kinder 1 room, our Educators hid numbers in a sensory tray. Children then used their hands to search for the numbers.

Once they discovered a number, they attempted to identify it, say its name, write it in the sand, and place it in the correct order.

Engineering in action!

- Designing and constructing: The children are selecting different pieces and working out how they can connect together to create a functioning structure. They are developing an understanding that different parts can be combined to make something new.

- Problem-solving: As children attempt to connect the pieces, they need to think about what will fit, what needs to change and how to make their construction work. When something doesn’t work, they can modify their design and try again.

- Cause and effect: The gears provide a wonderful opportunity to explore how movement transfers from one piece to another.

Children can discover that when one gear moves, it can make another gear move too.

Early childhood is a critical time for establishing healthy habits. Educators play an important role in helping children understand why caring for their teeth is important through engaging, age-appropriate experiences.

Learning about brushing teeth, making healthy food and drink choices, and visiting the dentist helps children build confidence and independence while promoting lifelong oral health.

Today, our children celebrated Jeans for Genes Day by exploring their creativity and learning that everyone is unique and special.

The children designed their own "genes" and decorated them using a variety of materials, including sparkles, paint, and chalk.

This hands-on activity encouraged self-expression, creativity, and conversations about individuality.

Matching games support children’s cognitive development by encouraging them to observe, compare, and identify similarities and differences between objects, pictures, colours, shapes, letters, numbers, or patterns.

As children search for matching pairs, they strengthen their memory, concentration, visual discrimination, and problem-solving skills.

Freedom to Be Creative

In this experience, the child is exploring watercolours with curiosity and confidence, freely choosing colours and investigating the paint through touch.

By using their fingers to explore the palette, they are making their own decisions and expressing themselves in a way that feels meaningful to them.

This open-ended experience gives the child the freedom to be creative without expectations or a predetermined outcome.

As they experiment with colours, textures and materials, they are developing their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and sensory awareness.

The child is demonstrating concentration and independence, taking the lead in their own learning as they discover how the paint feels and how different colours can be used.

Providing opportunities like this supports children’s creativity, imagination and confidence, encouraging them to explore, make choices and express themselves in their own unique way.

It reflects the belief that every child is a capable and competent learner, with ideas and creative expression valued.

To celebrate World Plant Day, our Tiny Tots children planted sunflower seeds.

The children enjoyed getting hands-on with soil and seeds while learning about how plants grow.

We look forward to watching their sunflower sprout and bloom! 🌻

This week, the children enjoyed learning about farm animal safety through hands on experiences.

They explored farm animals, practised animal wash, completed farm-themed puzzles, and enjoyed reading books about life on a farm.
