🚨 WA SURPRISE INVITATION ROUND! 🇦🇺 14 October 2026

Western Australia has conducted an unexpected skilled migration invitation round today, despite no new nomination criteria being announced for the 2026–27 financial year!

🏗️ A significant number of invitations went to construction occupations, including offshore applicants, WA residents and graduates. It appears that interstate candidates were left out in this round.
👨‍🍳 Interestingly, occupations such as Cook, Chef, Enrolled Nurse and Civil Engineering Draftspersons also received invitations - occupations often overlooked by other states!

📌 The round appears to have been conducted under the previous financial year's criteria.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺🎓

From 2 October 2026, the course transfer rules are changing.

📌 Starting from 2 October 2026 until 30 June 2027: If you are an international student wanting to transfer from one registered education provider to another, you will need to complete at least 12 months of your principal course with your current provider.

❗ Before completing the 12 months, a Letter of Release is generally required from your current/releasing provider before another provider can enrol you.

✅ There are exceptions, including situations where the releasing provider or your course ceases to be registered, or where other specific circumstances under the National Code apply.

📅 From 1 July 2027:
Under this amendment, the transfer restriction is scheduled to revert to 6 months.

⚠️ BUT there’s another important development…

The Government has announced further migration reforms expected around mid-2027, including a proposed/announced requirement for international students changing providers to apply for a new Student visa in certain circumstance. So the rules from mid-2027 may be different from simply “6 months and transfer.”

🏫 If your provider/course is cancelled or ceases to be registered:
There are special provisions allowing affected students to move to another provider, rather than being blocked by the normal transfer restriction. If your provider defaults, the Department of Home Affairs also recognises that you may need to find an alternative course.
👉 Important: Don't transfer or start a new course based only on social-media videos. Check your individual circumstances, visa conditions and the requirements applying to your principal course.

🚨 No, the whole of Victoria has NOT suddenly become “regional” for migration purposes! MARN 2217996

There’s been some confusion around the new LIN 26/004 instrument.

The important distinction 👇

“Designated Area” ≠ “Designated Regional Area”

LIN 26/004 specifies designated areas for visa condition 8549, which is relevant to certain visa subclasses, including Subclass 489 and Subclass 887 pathways.

It does NOT mean that the postcodes for designated regional areas have automatically changed or that Melbourne is now regional for visas such as the 491 or 494.

Similar terminology, very different migration provisions. ⚠️

Always check what provision an instrument is actually made for before relying on social media posts.

The Regulations confirm that condition 8549 relates to living, working and studying in a designated area, while the Subclass 887 criteria separately deal with specified regional areas depending on the qualifying visa held. ([legislation.gov.au][1])

🇦🇺 MAJOR AUSTRALIAN VISA CHANGES ANNOUNCED

Big changes have been proposed to Australia’s migration system — affecting visitor visas, student visas, student/graduate dependants, skilled migration, Working Holiday visas, protection claims and visa overstayers.

Key proposals include 👇

✈️ No Further Stay conditions for future visitor visas
🎓 Higher-level study requirements for further student visas
👨‍👩‍👧 Restrictions on family members for new Student & Graduate visa applicants, with exceptions
🔨 Points-test changes benefiting housing construction trades
⏩ Priority processing for construction, agriculture, fisheries, resources & teaching
🎒 Ballots for 2nd & 3rd Working Holiday visas
🛡️ Measures targeting non-genuine protection claims
⚖️ Stronger action against migration agents facilitating system abuse
🛫 Increased enforcement against visa overstayers

🚨 WA INVITATION ROUND UPDATE – 16/09/2026 🇦🇺

Western Australia conducted its latest invitation round today.

Based on multiple sources — including invitations received by our office, fellow migration agents, clients and candidate feedback — WA appears to have invited candidates across various occupations, with a strong focus on priority sectors.

Some occupations reported include:

🔹 Carpenters
🔹 Painters
🔹 Bricklayers
🔹 Solid Plasterers
🔹 Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs)
🔹 Civil Draftspersons
🔹 Civil Engineers
🔹 Registered Nurses
🔹 Structural Engineers
🔹 Chefs

📍 A notable observation is that WA residents appear to have received most invitations.

Some interstate candidates with higher points did not receive invitations, while WA residents with comparatively lower points appear to have received invitations. This may indicate that WA residency and occupation/priority-sector considerations were important factors, and points alone may not explain all outcomes.
