National Meals on Wheels Day 2026 celebrates " A movement of Care" powering communities across Australia.

Cootamundra Meals on Wheels joins communities across Australia in recognising the extraordinary impact of Meals on Wheels in delivering not only essential nutrition, but also dignity, connection and care to older Australians and people in need.
Today, Cootamundra Meals on Wheels had the support of our local member Steph Cooke assisting in delivering " MORE THAN JUST A MEAL" to our local residents.
The regular visit from a volunteer, not only delivers a nutritious meal but it brings a friendly face and the opportunity for a conversation, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness and improve mental health.
The service would like to especially acknowledge the wonderful work of the dedicated volunteers who have donated their time, skills and care to keeping this vital service running 6 days per week.
This year, a special thank you goes out to our Business Houses and Community Organisations receiving a delivery of their own. Meals on Wheels have delivered specially made and decorated cookies with the services logo and colours - made possible by a grant through the Ex-Serviceman's Club and Club Grants NSW.

Cootamundra is community, if nothing else!!

We were delighted to be a part of the High Tea earlier this week at the Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen's & Citizens Memorial Club raising much needed funds for the local Cootamundra Hospital Auxiliary.

More than 20 members of our Social Support Group were able to reconnect with old and new friends, sample some lovely sweet and savoury treats and raise money for a good cause all at the same time.

We even got to hear from Meals on Wheels coordinator Kerry Kostrubic about the history of the local service.

(Some on our longest-serving volunteers were surprised to hear that we deliver almost 25,000 meals each year to clients in Cootamundra and surrounding villages.)

It's a well-known fact that older people do better when they have a community to support them. And it's events like this that highlight just what a well-connected community we have!!

Our social outing for the month of May was a little different than usual. Our ladies joined the Super Crafty Ladies for morning tea and lunch. It was a great morning watching all the beautiful items the ladies were making as well as some good conversations and catch ups with some old friends. The men gathered in the main area for a chat with some volunteers about what is involved with The Men's Shed, Cootamundra & District Machinery Restoration Society and the Lions Club of Cootamundra. Both groups had a very enjoyable day, thankyou to the Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen's & Citizens Memorial Club, the volunteers who attended and the Super Crafty Ladies, especially Di Bray who had a beautiful gift for all our ladies

" COMMUNITY IS A VERB"
Thank you to all our volunteers who attended our Volunteer Luncheon on Tuesday 16th June, and a massive thank you to our guest speaker John Harper - Mate Helping Mate.

Mental health is everyone's business and as a service, Meals on Wheels, our staff and volunteers are in the business of showing up and looking out for one another, because we COMMUNITY and we care.

Community is a verb that calls us to action.
Community is a verb that calls us to our higher selves.
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers - you care, you communicate and you provide that human connection to those people in our community who rely on this wonderful service.

"It's your year to volunteer."

That's the theme of this years National Volunteers Week which runs from the 18th to the 24th of May.

Cootamundra Meals on Wheels is so proud of each and every one of the generous people who donate their time to delivering meals, offering support and meaningful connection to our clients.

In the past month alone, more than 150 local volunteers have donated hundred's of hours, delivering more than 960 hot meals and more than 500 frozen meals to people in Cootamundra and surrounding villages. 🏑

Without them, more of these people would be at a greater risk of health decline and social isolation.

As a very small token of our appreciation, every volunteer this week received a chocolate bar and a certificate. 🍫 But the smiles on the faces say it all!! πŸ˜ƒ

(Sometimes it really is the small things that give the most joy).

So, if you have some time to spare, or just want to be as happy as our volunteers, why not give back to the community?

Whichever organisation you choose to help, we are positive they will be grateful that you did!!

Sunday was a beautiful day and Cootamundra Meals on Wheels were grateful for John Holland staff to volunteer their time to deliver meals. A big thank you also to One Twenty 7 for supplying the beautiful hearts gifted to all our female clients and Cootamundra Mitre 10 who donated a potted plant to all the ladies who received a meal on Sunday.

Our social outing for Meals on Wheels this month was a bus trip to Gundagai. Clients enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Gundagai District Service's Club followed by a gelato at The Dog on the Tuckerbox. This was our first bus trip for the year, the weather was perfect for a drive through the countryside. Thankyou to the volunteers who came along to help out on the day, a lovely day was had by all who attended.

A big shoutout to the community of Cootamundra πŸ™Œ

We are still coming down from our recent high of celebrating our 60th anniversary. πŸŽ‚

60 amazing years of delivering nutritious meals to our elderly residents so they can maintain their own independence. And while it was wonderful to see so many of you join us on the day, there is a whole army of people we need to thank.

An event of this magnitude doesn't just happen by itself and over the last few weeks we have been individually thanking those people who helped make it a success.

But we would also like to publicly thank the following local businesses who donated items for our raffle. A hamper from the Long Track Pantry, a $50 fuel voucher from South West Fuel Centre and a $30 coffee voucher from Dusty Road Coffee Roasters. All the prizes were warmly received especially by the following winners.....

1st prize - Joan Collins
2nd prize - Lesley Manwaring
3rd prize - Margie Large

Cootamundra Meals on Wheels is hugely thankful for all of our business houses and community groups who in some way contribute to the running of this important community organisation.

We acknowledge JMA Legal, Delta Agribusiness, Flemings Southern NSW, Dawson Group, Nutrien Ag Solutions Cootamundra, Intereach Cootamundra, Twomeys, Jindalee Feedlot, EA Southee Public School, Cootamundra Girl Guides, Eloura School, Cootamundra Lions Club and the John Holland workers on the Inland Rail project.
