One of our Townsville students recently completed work experience at The Good Shepherd Home. We're delighted to share their reflections on this rewarding experience:

“I was really glad I went to The Good Shepherd Home for work experience as it helped improve my communication skills and it made me feel good. I have never been to a place where there were so many smiles and greetings from people I didn't know. Not all of the elderly people that I met liked to talk, but I got lucky and met a beautiful lady who told me so many stories about her family, her old home, hobbies and interests. I left The Good Shepherd Home with a smile and I cant wait to go back. I would say work experience is 100% worth it. Thank you to everyone at The Good Shepherd Home.”

Chris also holds a special connection to QPSC and Townsville Campus, as a treasured past staff member and mentor to many QPSC students across the years. ❤️

Thank you to Joe Kelly MP for inviting our Metro South students on a tour of Parliament House! Students thoroughly enjoyed exploring the historic and iconic spaces while learning more about Queensland's parliamentary processes. We greatly appreciate the invitation. ✨

Last week, our Metro and Toowoomba campuses came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, embracing this year’s theme, "50 Years of Deadly", and recognising the significant milestone of five decades of the national NAIDOC movement.

Students and staff participated in a range of activities that made the day both meaningful and memorable. We are incredibly grateful to Rebecca Glancy (Regional Community Education Counsellor (Identified), Partnerships and Programs, First Nations Education, Queensland Department of Education) for taking the time to deliver the Welcome to Country and facilitate a yarning circle alongside Elijah Alick-Wiencke.

We would also like to thank Sammy and Tammy from The Boss Boxing for leading an energetic boxing and fitness session, and our QPSC staff for running traditional First Nations games and an art activity that encouraged connection, learning and creativity.

A huge thank you to our guests, staff and students for celebrating this important occasion with such enthusiasm, respect and engagement.

Here is a snapshot of the wonderful experiences that made up our Townsville campus NAIDOC Week celebrations. The week concluded with an excursion to Garabarra (Jezzine), a culturally significant site for the Wulgurukaba people and an important location in Townsville’s military history. 🌱

Students immersed themselves in the area's rich cultural and natural landscape through the scenic coastal art walk, participated in traditional First Nations games including Wana and Gorri and enjoyed time together along The Strand. Complete with ocean views, fresh sea breezes and a well-earned ice cream, it was a memorable way to celebrate, connect and learn. 🌊

Recently, our Townsville campus welcomed Belinda and Brett Beasley, along with Senior Constable Jack Ryan, for a special presentation. Students gained valuable insights into Jack’s Law and the “Detect Knives to Save Lives” campaign, which aims to improve community safety and raise awareness about the dangers of carrying knives. 🌟

Here are some photos from our awesome Townsville Campus Connection & Collaboration outing to Riverway and Kingpin! 🎳

Students and staff enjoyed exploring the Riverway Library and Cultural Hub and visiting the Pinnacles Gallery, where we experienced the incredible Intimate Imaginaries exhibition. The exhibition showcased works from Arts Project Australia, an organisation dedicated to supporting and advocating for the creative work of neurodiverse artists and artists with intellectual disability.

The experience continued with plenty of movement, fun and connection through bowling and laser tag, which was an absolute blast! 🎉

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with each other, engage with the local arts and culture scene and create some wonderful memories together.
