Creating Language‑Rich Moments Through Solitude & Sustainability

In our Kindergarten space, we’ve been exploring something truly special, recycled reading boxes that invite children to slow down, settle in, and let their language bloom.

These cosy little nooks, crafted from repurposed boxes, have quickly become treasured hideaways. When children climb inside, something magical happens:
they enter a world where stories feel closer, ideas feel bigger, and their own words begin to flow.

Recycled Reading Boxes
Designed by our educators and children together, these boxes offer a sense of enclosure and comfort. This gentle solitude helps children focus, imagine, and engage deeply with books and storytelling.

Language Growth
Inside these quiet spaces, we see children narrating pictures, retelling familiar stories, experimenting with new vocabulary, and sharing their discoveries with friends and educators. Our latest stories challenge children's ideas - "Try your best forget the rest!" is a story to encourage children to persist with challenges!

Sustainable Learning
By transforming recycled materials into meaningful learning spaces, we’re modelling care for our environment while creating opportunities for rich communication and creativity.

Every day, these simple boxes remind us that language doesn’t need fancy tools, just thoughtful spaces, curious minds, and the freedom to explore.

Here’s to stories whispered, ideas discovered, and voices growing stronger in the quietest corners of our Kindergarten.

Our Commitment to Reconciliation Through Children’s Learning

Goodstart Coopers Plains continues to deepen our commitment to Reconciliation by creating meaningful opportunities for children to connect with Country, culture, and community. This week, our learning has centred on mark making and nature, powerful ways for children to explore identity, belonging, and respect.

Our Toddler 1 Room with Miss Aarti and Miss Joyce drive creativity, connection and a strong sense of belonging each day!

In our Nursery 2 room, we recognise that symbols are powerful tools for communication and early language development. Every day, our youngest learners explore how marks, gestures, pictures, and simple visual cues carry meaning. Through drawing, pointing, mark making, and engaging with familiar symbols in their environment, children begin to understand that ideas can be shared in many ways long before spoken language fully emerges.

These experiences reflect our commitment to the EYLF v2.0 Principles of High Expectations for Every Child and Respect for Diversity, and align with Practices such as Learning Through Play and Holistic Approaches. By offering rich opportunities to explore symbols from photos and picture cards to natural materials and early mark making we support children to build strong foundations in communication, identity, and connection.

We are proud to nurture a learning environment where every mark, gesture, and symbol is valued as a meaningful step in each child’s communication journey.

Goodstart Coopers Plains deeply values the diversity of our children, families, and community. This week, we extend a heartfelt thank‑you to one very special family for their thoughtful donation that helps us enrich children’s learning about the many ways families can look, live, and love. Your contribution support our curriculum decisions particularly the Principles of Respect for Diversity and Secure, Respectful and Reciprocal Relationships, as well as Practices such as Holistic Approaches and Partnerships with Families. Together, we are creating a learning environment where every child feels seen, valued, and connected and where their understanding of diverse families grows through meaningful, authentic experiences. Thank you for being active partners in shaping an inclusive and empowering learning community

Nature play at Goodstart Coopers Plains is a core part of our early childhood philosophy because it nurtures confident, curious learners and actively supports each child’s development. When children explore outdoors-climbing, digging, imagining, and discovering-they strengthen their bodies, build resilience, develop problem‑solving skills, and form a deep connection with the natural world. These open‑ended experiences spark creativity, encourage independence, and lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

Goodstart Coopers Plains deeply values the power of connection, community, and support. Marita (Centre Director) drives the belief that strong, respectful relationships are at the heart of everything we do, creating a sense of belonging where children, families, and educators can thrive together.

As part of this commitment, we are passionate about supporting women and families who may be experiencing challenging times, offering compassion, understanding, and practical support when it is needed most.

The collection of donations in the image attached reflects our commitment, and to our community, this is where the true magic happens. It is through these moments that connection is strengthened and a genuine sense of community is sparked and sustained.

We are incredibly grateful to our families and educators for their generosity, care, and ongoing contributions in supporting women and families in need. Together, we continue to build a community that lifts one another up, embraces each other’s journeys, and makes a meaningful difference.

We’re thrilled to share the results of our recent ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales) self‑assessment and moderation for our Kindergarten Room. ECERS is a respected tool used across early childhood settings to measure the quality of learning environments, from interactions and routines to materials, safety, and opportunities for exploration.

Our Kindergarten Room achieved 6s and 7s, placing us in the excellent range. These results reflect:

Our commitment to high‑quality, intentional environments

Strong alignment to and support implementation of EYLF V2.0 and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines

A team dedicated to continuous improvement and exceptional outcomes for children

We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and remain committed to providing a Kindergarten program where every child feels supported, capable, and excited to learn. Miss Rachel our Amazing Early Childhood Teacher and Miss Urvashi are a dynamic Team amplifying practise in every way to support our Kindergarten Learners every day - We say a huge thankyou for all you do!

Our Connection space this week explores nature, stories, symbols and patterns connected to Reconciliation Week and what it means to be ALL IN together.

We used loose parts to create patterns and symbols while listening to stories about Country, connection and belonging. We noticed the shapes in nature, shared ideas with friends and used our imagination to tell stories through our creations.

As we reflected on this year’s theme, "All in", our educators helped us think about how we can all work together to care for each other, listen deeply and learn from the stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through nature, play and storytelling, we discovered that when everyone is included and valued, we are stronger together
