This week, we are embracing the wonder of discovery as we celebrate National Science Week! Science in the early years is so much more than experiments. It is about nurturing children's natural curiosity about the world around them and empowering them to become confident, capable learners.

Through hands-on investigations, exploration, problem-solving opportunities, and meaningful conversations, children are developing important learning dispositions that support lifelong learning. As they ask questions, test theories, and make new discoveries, they are building:

Exploring Our World Through a Magnifying Glass

Today, our young investigators ventured out onto Country armed with magnifying glasses, curiosity, and a sense of wonder! What started as a search for bugs quickly became a rich scientific learning experience.

As children carefully observed insects, leaves, bark, and the natural environment, they engaged in important scientific thinking skills. They made predictions about where bugs might be hiding, developed hypotheses about what they might find, and eagerly explored to test their ideas.

What learning was taking place?

Through hands-on exploration, children were empowered to ask questions, share their theories, and make new discoveries. Every bug found, every leaf examined, and every question asked helped deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Sometimes the greatest learning begins with a simple question: "I wonder what we'll find?"

📦✨ The Magic of Box Play ✨📦

To an outsider, it might look like a pile of boxes, scattered materials, and a little bit of chaos. But to children, it's a world of endless possibilities, imagination, and learning!

Box play is so much more than "just playing." As children explore, create, build, and collaborate, they are developing a wide range of skills across all areas of learning and development.

What learning is happening?
• Creativity and imagination as children transform boxes into houses, cars, boats, castles, shops, and more.
• Problem-solving skills as they figure out how to balance, connect, stack, and construct.
• Critical thinking through planning, experimenting, and adapting their ideas.
• Language and communication as they negotiate roles, share ideas, and tell stories.
• Social skills through teamwork, cooperation, and learning to compromise.
• Fine motor development when cutting, taping, drawing, and manipulating materials.
• Gross motor development through lifting, carrying, climbing around, and moving larger boxes.
• Confidence and resilience as children persist through challenges and celebrate their achievements.

What may appear to be a "mess" is actually a rich learning environment where children are investigating, innovating, and making sense of the world around them. Every box becomes an opportunity to explore, create, and grow.

At the heart of box play is the understanding that some of the most meaningful learning happens when children are given the freedom to lead their own play, take risks, and bring their ideas to life.

As part of our commitment to Reconciliation, we continue to deepen our connection to Country through nature, creativity and meaningful experiences with children. Our RAP guides us to respectfully acknowledge and learn from the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, learn and play each day.

Through exploring our garden spaces, gathering natural materials, and engaging in creative experiences inspired by the environment around us, children are developing a stronger connection to the land. These moments provide opportunities to learn about caring for Country, respecting nature, and appreciating the stories and significance held within the landscapes we share.

Our philosophy of nature play reflects our belief that children make meaning of their world through hands-on exploration, curiosity, and connection. Together, we discover, create, wonder and learn, fostering a sense of belonging and respect for the land and cultures that have cared for it for generations.

We are proud to continue this journey of learning, listening and walking together towards a more reconciled future.

Acknowledging and Supporting Jeans for Jeans Day goes a little like this at Goodstart Coopers Plains. Miss Aarti and Miss Joyce in our Toddler 1 Room and Miss Arun and Miss Victoria in the Kindergarten 1 Room explored their creativity with the children as they decorated pairs of jeans to sparkle and highlight how important these days are to us... "1 in 20 kids faces a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and life-threatening metabolic disorders". Our centre has catered for many children with varying needs over the years and we use these special days to highlight the amazing work our Educators do to support the children.

We are delighted to welcome Miss Yunna to her new role as Senior Educator alongside our much-loved long-term educator, Miss Reina, in Nursery 2.
Together, they bring warmth, dedication and a genuine passion for nurturing our youngest learners. Their shared commitment to building strong, responsive relationships creates a safe and welcoming environment where every child feels valued, respected and loved.
At the heart of the Nursery 2 philosophy is the belief that connection comes first. By slowing down, being present and truly being with the children, Miss Yunna and Miss Reina create opportunities for meaningful interactions that foster a strong sense of belonging, security and trust. Through cuddles, conversations, shared play experiences and responsive care, they help children develop the confidence to explore, learn and grow at their own pace.
We know that when children feel connected, they thrive. By creating a space where every child feels seen, heard and cherished, Miss Yunna and Miss Reina are supporting the foundations for lifelong learning and wellbeing.

Celebrating Miss Joyce and the Joy of Outdoor Play

At Goodstart Coopers Plains, we are incredibly lucky to have Miss Joyce, a true superstar who leads each day with kindness, joy and a deep love for the outdoors. Her enthusiasm for nature inspires children to embrace every season and discover the endless possibilities that await beyond the classroom walls.

Dressed in our overalls and ready for adventure, children are encouraged to explore, investigate and play, no matter the weather. Whether it's splashing in water, creating potions in the mud kitchen, digging in the garden beds or getting wonderfully muddy, the learning never stops when we step outside!

Our commitment to outdoor play reflects our service philosophy, which values the natural environment as a rich and meaningful space for learning, wellbeing and connection. Through these experiences, children build confidence, resilience, creativity and a sense of belonging while forming caring relationships with their peers and educators.

By embracing all-season outdoor play, we are also honouring the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child:

🌱 Article 31: Every child has the right to play, rest and participate in recreational activities.

💚 Article 18: Every child has the right to be loved and cared for.

Through Miss Joyce's nurturing approach, children experience both of these rights every day. They know they are valued, supported and free to explore their world through play in an environment filled with warmth, trust and care.
