The good news: your water meter can tell you if you’ve got one, and it takes no tools.

Turn off every tap inside and out, and make sure nothing is running (washing machine, dishwasher, sprinklers, evaporative cooler).

Write down the numbers on your meter.

Check again in 30 minutes, or first thing in the morning. If the numbers have moved, something is leaking.

To test the toilet, put a few drops of food colouring in the cistern. If colour shows up in the bowl without flushing, the cistern is leaking.

Found a leak? A licensed plumber can track it down. If you think the leak is on Council’s side of the meter, call us on 02 6827 1900.

One meter, two readings, and you’ll know for sure.

Council will be conducting water meter readings across Coonamble, Gulargambone and Quambone over the next couple of weeks.

To help ensure readings can be completed efficiently, please:

✅ Ensure your water meter is clear and easily accessible
✅ Remove any obstructions around the meter
✅ Restrain dogs and other pets during the reading period

If you are unable to restrain your dog(s), please contact Council to arrange a suitable time for your water meter reading to be completed.

Please note that Council is unable to advise which streets or areas will be read on specific days, as the reading schedule can vary depending on operational requirements and progress on the day.

These machines are hard at work stabilising the upgraded Tooraweenah Road.

Out in front, the stabiliser pulverises the existing road material and mixes binder through it, creating a stronger and more stable foundation for the road layers to come.

Representatives from Easyweb Digital will be in Quambone from Wednesday, 14 October 2026 undertaking community engagement activities. Feel free to stop by and have a chat.

As part of ongoing network improvements, Easyweb Digital will also be replacing a piece of equipment in each home installation. Their team will be visiting homes from 14 October onwards to complete these upgrades, with works continuing until all installations have been updated.

Our kids see firsthand how our community looks after water, and Water Night is a great chance for them to show what they know.

Schools with the highest percentage of registrations nationally can win a WaterUps wicking garden bed, designed to grow plants using less water. 🌱 Because it's based on percentage, schools of every size have a real chance!
