Finding Your Way Around SJC Just Got Easier! 🌟

We’re pleased to share that new directional signage has been installed across the school grounds, making it easier for students, families, visitors and community members to navigate our campus.

The new signs clearly identify school entrances and provide directions to key areas, including the Administration Office and car park, helping everyone find where they need to go quickly and confidently.

This marks Stage 1 of our Signage Masterplan, developed in partnership with Corporate Sign Industries, and is part of our ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming and accessible environment for our community.

Stage 2 is planned for 2027, with further improvements to wayfinding across the campus as our College Masterplan nears completion.

Inspiring Others Through Faith And Action 💙

During Catholic Education Week, our Year 3 students reflected on how they can inspire others through their words, actions and faith.

Through thoughtful writing, students shared the many ways they show kindness, courage and compassion, and how these simple actions can make a positive difference in the lives of those around them.

A wonderful reminder that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

Celebrating Excellence In English 📖

How does the SJC English Department spend its weekend? At the English Teachers Association Queensland State Conference, of course!

This year was especially memorable, with our own Erin Shields selected to present best practice to English teachers from across Queensland, an outstanding achievement for a second-year teacher.

Erin shared our revamped Year 8 Dystopian Worlds unit, based on The Hunger Games, showcasing how purposeful, engaging learning experiences can inspire reluctant readers and strengthen student writing.

Despite the nerves, Erin presented with confidence, expertise and passion, receiving wonderful feedback from teachers across Queensland.

We couldn’t be prouder of how Erin represented herself, our English Department and St Joseph’s College. Congratulations, Erin! 👏

Year 12 Retreat ✨

Last Term, our Year 12 students and teachers travelled to Camp Somerset for their Year 12 Retreat. Inspired by our 2026 theme, ‘we are but travellers here’ - Mary MacKillop, students reflected on their journey so far, the steps still ahead and the legacy they hope to leave.

Through small-group activities and challenges from Unleashing Personal Potential, students were encouraged to reflect on their values, beliefs and the people they are becoming.

The Retreat was a valuable opportunity for our Year 12 cohort to pause, give thanks, celebrate their journey and look ahead to what is still to come.

Celebrating 50 Years Of Deadly 💙💛

Recently, our College community came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 and the theme “50 Years of Deadly”. Honouring the histories, cultures, achievements and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our assembly featured our newly developed Acknowledgement of Country, created through our Reconciliation Action Plan, as well as student presentations celebrating culture, Country, truth and community.

Our First Nations students also shared what being “Deadly” means to them excellence, strength, pride and celebrating identity and culture.

Gathered in a Yarning Circle, students reflected on how we can each contribute to a community where every culture is honoured, every voice is valued and reconciliation is lived through our everyday actions.

Exploring Australia’s History, Culture And Democracy 🚌

During Week 10 last term, a group of senior students embarked on an unforgettable educational journey through Sydney and Canberra, exploring some of Australia’s most significant cultural, historical and political landmarks.

In Sydney, students visited Mary MacKillop Place, Taronga Zoo, the Sydney Opera House and the Rocks Markets before travelling to Canberra for four days of learning and discovery.

Highlights included the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex, Australian Institute of Sport, Duntroon Royal Military College, Australian War Memorial and Parliament House, where students witnessed Question Time in the House of Representatives.
A special highlight was an unexpected opportunity to meet the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, at Government House.

The tour provided valuable opportunities to deepen students’ understanding of Australian history, government, science and leadership while creating lasting memories along the way.

A huge thank you to the staff who supported the trip and helped make this experience possible.

Preparing For Senior Schooling Pathways ✔️

Our Year 10 students and their parents, guardians and caregivers recently joined College staff for our Senior Schooling Information Evening, an important milestone in preparing for the transition into Years 11 and 12.

Throughout the evening, curriculum leaders, teachers and current senior students shared valuable insights into the range of General, Applied and Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects available, helping families better understand the many pathways to achieving the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Families also had the opportunity to connect with representatives from TAFE, Registered Training Organisations and universities to explore the diverse learning and career opportunities available during senior schooling and beyond.

The evening builds on the work already taking place in Year 10 Pastoral Care, where students are exploring senior subject selection, vocational pathways, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, and tertiary education options.

As students continue preparing for their Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan Interviews in Term 3, we look forward to supporting each student as they make informed decisions about their future learning journey.

Inspiring Creativity Through Real-World Learning 🎨

Learning comes to life when students are given the opportunity to explore real-world challenges, ask questions and use their creativity to make meaningful connections.

Our Year 7 Visual Arts students are combining art, science and media to investigate the impact of microplastic pollution and explore how creativity can be used to raise awareness and inspire change.

Through hands-on learning experiences, students are developing the skills to question, create and communicate ideas that connect with the world beyond school.

We are proud to nurture curious minds and empower our students to make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

Celebrating Our Incredible School Officers 💓

Our School Officers are the heart of our College community.

Whether they're driving our buses, caring for our grounds, supporting students in the classroom, assisting in the library, providing first aid, answering phones or helping on the sporting field, their dedication and care make a difference every single day.

To thank them for all they do, we hosted a special appreciation luncheon, beautifully prepared and served by our Year 12 Hospitality students as part of their assessment. Guests enjoyed a delicious two-course meal and the opportunity to relax and spend time with colleagues.

Thank you to our School Officers for the invaluable contribution you make every day.

P.S. It was also Pyjama Day, so yes… the pyjamas were part of the celebration!

Term 2 Sporting Success For Our Primary Representative Teams 👏

Congratulations to our Primary Representative teams on an outstanding Term 2, representing our College with skill, determination and exceptional sportsmanship.

Our Netball teams achieved fantastic results at the QC Cup Tournament, with the Teal team finishing 3rd in their division and the Maroon team crowned Division Champions, going undefeated throughout the competition.

Our Basketball Representative team also enjoyed an incredible campaign at the 5x5 CBSQ Tournament, remaining undefeated while consistently demonstrating outstanding teamwork and skill across the tournament.

A sincere thank you to our coaches, families and supporters for the encouragement and commitment shown throughout the season.

Congratulations to all of our student athletes on a fantastic term of sport.
