Our Year 11 Rock Band took to the stage at the American Car Show on Sunday 9 August, delivering a fantastic lineup of crowd favourites, including Karma Police, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Big Jet Plane, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Snow, Something So Strong and Walk of Life.

Our talented musicians, Cody Peters, Harrison Morris, Lachlan Clews, Rithul Vishnu and Luke Swindale, performed multiple sets throughout the day and had the crowd entertained from start to finish.

Congratulations to our TAS students who showcased their creativity and commitment to sustainability at the Cairns Regional Council Trash to Treasure: Reuse, Rethink, Repurpose Competition.

As part of her Round Square Gold Project, Year 6 student Isla Dressler ran her own Trash to Treasure event at TAS Primary, encouraging students to find new purposes for unwanted items. Isla then took the winning entries to the Council’s competition, proudly representing TAS and sharing her project with visitors.

Representing TAS Secondary, Year 8 students Harmony Agius, Girija Tambade and Penny Ellery were awarded runner-up in the Secondary section.

Harmony and Girija created a majestic unicorn from recycled feed bags, plastic cups, cardboard and reclaimed timber, while Penny transformed reclaimed skateboard decks and timber offcuts into a stylish dog bed.

Our TAS Chamber Music ensembles recently enjoyed a truly inspiring learning experience as educational partners of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM).

Students were privileged to participate in a masterclass with internationally acclaimed musicians Leon Bosch, Lloyd Van't Hoff and Christian-Pierre La Marca, gaining invaluable insights from artists performing at this year's festival.

The day concluded with a special concert featuring the AFCM Tertiary Pathways ensembles alongside our TAS Chamber Music groups, performing for family and friends in a wonderful celebration of talent, collaboration and a shared passion for music.

Experiences like these provide our students with exceptional opportunities to learn from world-class musicians and continue to grow as confident, accomplished performers.

Congratulations to Rebecca, Gia, Mackenzie and Tara, our talented Year 9/10 Readers Cup team, on their outstanding performance at the 2026 Readers Cup competition.

After months of dedicated preparation, the team travelled to St Stephen's Catholic College in Mareeba to compete against the region's strongest readers from 14 schools. Their hard work, literary knowledge and teamwork shone through, earning them an impressive top three finish.

This fantastic achievement is a testament to their commitment, perseverance and love of reading. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented TAS.

Congratulations to Year 11 students Lana Kandakji and Siya Bozza on earning a Highly Commended award at the STEM Quantum Challenge Competition in Brisbane.

Lana and Siya explored how quantum sensing technology could transform the early diagnosis of melanoma, one of Queensland's most significant health challenges. Their research investigated how emerging quantum technologies could provide a more accurate, non-invasive alternative to traditional biopsies, with the potential to improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and position Australia at the forefront of health innovation.

Their achievement is a testament to their curiosity, critical thinking and passion for applying science and technology to real-world challenges.

Congratulations, Lana and Siya. We are incredibly proud of your outstanding achievement and the way you continue to embody the TAS spirit of excellence, innovation and purposeful learning.

Congratulations to TAS Outdoor Educator Ms Mia Blashki, who has been named a finalist in the 2026 Outdoor Education Australia Awards in the emerging practitioner category.

Since joining TAS in 2025, Mia has established herself as a capable and versatile practitioner embracing every opportunity to learn, contribute and grow within the school's busy Outdoor Education program.

Our next Emerging Practitioner finalist in the 2026 Outdoor Education Australia Awards is Mia Blashki, Outdoor Educator at Trinity Anglican School, Cairns.

After completing a four-year Bachelor of Secondary/ Bachelor of Recreation and Outdoor Environmental Studies degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast of the Sunshine Coast, Mia joined TAS as an Outdoor Educator at the start of 2026. Since then, she has established herself as a capable and versatile practitioner, embracing every opportunity to learn, contribute and grow within the school's busy Outdoor Education program.

Mia has been involved in seven different outdoor programs spanning Years 3 to 12, taking on a variety of roles including group leader, teacher, program support and program coordinator. She has led activities ranging from overnight expeditions, hiking, mountain biking and canoeing to interstate programs, while also completing specialist professional development in Wilderness First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue, mountain biking instruction and other key areas. Beyond program delivery, Mia has immersed herself in all aspects of the department, supporting planning, logistics, student wellbeing, specialist skill delivery and school outdoor education events.

Most importantly, Mia is eager to learn. She keenly watches experienced educators, learning from those around her and developing her own teaching style. Her ability to connect with students on a personal level, combined with her positive energy and enthusiasm, has been appreciated by both students and colleagues. Congratulations Mia!

Our secondary students put their endurance, determination and house spirit to the test at the recent Interhouse Triathlon. From the swim to the bike ride and run, it was fantastic to see students encouraging one another and giving their best effort throughout the event.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and helped make it a great day of competition and house spirit.

💯 Our Prep students celebrated 100 days of learning with a day full of fun, creativity and smiles. From exciting classroom activities to dressing up for the occasion, it was a wonderful way to recognise how much they've grown, learned and achieved since starting school. Congratulations to our Prep students on reaching this special milestone, here's to many more days of learning ahead!
