Following the champagne soaked, red carpet prancing, A-list launch party hedonism and general bacchanalia associated with the digital release of my recording People Puppets Fire Vol 1 in August this year(i.e. I turned my computer off for a week and binge watched Star Trek Discovery) I was inundated with requests(five actually - yep, all relatives) for a real-life, physical, no nancy-pancy confusing how-do-I-get-it-out-of-the-bloody-computer-stream-thingy compact disk recording. When the people speak…. I listen…. Especially when it’s Mum and Dad. So here we are. A local artist has produced a CD featuring compositions written for a local festival (Woodford) featuring the beautiful vocals of other local artists (Angela Iimura, Lizzie O’Keefe, Shannon Sol Carroll and Karl S. Williams) with artwork and printing supplied by local companies(Music Media). And all just four weeks out from one of the most significant ceremonial days in the Western world - a day punctuated, coincidentally, by the giving of gifts. It’s a Christmas miracle!!(it’s also readily available on all the usual streaming services if you just want to have a listen…)

Here’s a bit of extra info about People Puppets Fire Vol 1
This collection of tunes is from my work over the last decade as a Composer and Festival Orchestra Director for the Fire Event – the ceremonial closing of the Woodford Folk Festival. The music was composed over the years as the soundtrack to many of the larger than life Fire Event characters and their narratives…heroes, monsters and flights of fancy dreamt up by directors Joey Ruigrok van der Werven (2012/13 & 2013/14) and Alex Podger (2014/15 onwards) and brought to life by the many musicians, singers, puppet and lantern makers/operators, painters, costume designers, actors, prop makers, set builders who make the annual pilgrimage to Woodfordia year after year.
