A little behind the scenes at Cormack Creations...

Lately, my studio has been filled with resin, colour and a whole lot of experimenting as I get pieces ready for the Let's Go Greek Festival on Saturday 12 September.

There is something I love about working with resin. You can start with an idea, but you never quite know exactly how the colours, layers and patterns are going to come together.

Each pour has its own little surprises.

Here's a peek at some of what I've been creating behind the scenes.

If you're heading to the Greek Festival, come and have a look at what I've been making — I'd love to see you there!

Last week we explored takeaway food in the studio.

Looking back at the work, though, I'm not just seeing pizzas, burgers and chips.

I'm seeing students growing in confidence.

I'm seeing them making their own choices, trying things for themselves and becoming more comfortable with the process of creating.

Sometimes the progress is obvious.

Sometimes it's a tiny little change that only someone who sees them week after week would notice.

But those little changes matter.

And they make me very proud.

Here's a little look at some of last week's work.

Creative Tip Tuesday!

DON’T DRAW WHAT YOU THINK YOU SEE — DRAW WHAT YOU ACTUALLY SEE

When we look at something, our brain often tells us what it thinks it looks like.

A hand is a hand.
A tree is a tree.
An eye is an eye.

But when we are drawing, it helps to slow down and really look.

Look at the shapes.
Look at the spaces around the object.
Look at the lines, angles and shadows.

Sometimes the best way to improve your drawing is simply to look a little longer before you start drawing. 👀✏️

That's part of learning to see like an artist.

This week in the studio: Prehistoric Life!

Roars, dinosaurs, volcanoes and a whole lot of imagination!

This week our students are heading millions of years back in time to explore the world of prehistoric life. From enormous dinosaurs to flying creatures and mysterious prehistoric landscapes, there are so many possibilities to explore.

I love seeing where our students take a theme like this. One idea can turn into so many completely different artworks — because there really is no limit to where your imagination can take you.

Who wouldn't love to spend a day with the dinosaurs?

"But I'm not very good at art."

It's something we hear quite often.

And our answer is simple:

You don't have to be.

Art classes aren't just for people who already know how to draw or paint. They're for people who are curious, who want to learn something new, who enjoy creating — and sometimes for those who simply want to give it a try.

At Sharz Art, students work at their own level and are guided through techniques step by step. There's no expectation that everyone will create the same thing, or that everything will be perfect.

Just come, have a go and see where your creativity takes you.

Want to see if Sharz Art is the right fit for you or your child?

Come along for a FREE trial class and give it a try. 🎨

Last week in the studio: Landscapes!

There is something really lovely about seeing how differently each student approaches the same theme.

Some explored mountains and rivers, others imagined beaches, deserts or completely created their own landscapes. We looked at colour, distance, light and how to make a picture feel like it has space within it.

The best part? There isn't one “right” landscape. Each artwork becomes a little glimpse into the artist's imagination.

Here are some of the landscapes our students created this week.

Creative Tip Tuesday

Light First, Dark Later

When you're drawing, don't press hard straight away.

Start with light, gentle lines while you work out where everything belongs. Once you're happy with your shapes and proportions, you can gradually build up your darker lines and details.

Think of it as building your drawing one layer at a time.

This gives you more freedom to change things as you go — and remember, your first line doesn't have to be your final line!
