🌿 Exploring Djilba through the senses 🌿

Our Djidi Djidi children enjoyed a sensory tuff tray featuring Australian birds, koalas and beautiful fresh wattle flowers. The children were encouraged to look, touch and smell the flowers, supporting their sensory exploration while fostering a deeper connection with nature. 🐦🌼🐨

This experience provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Noongar season of Djilba, noticing and exploring the natural world around us. πŸ’›

πŸ”¬ Science Week Fun! πŸ§ͺ

This week, our friends have been busy little scientists, exploring exciting chemical reactions, colourful experiments, and plenty of hands-on fun.

Our educators transformed the learning environment into a laboratory-inspired space where children could investigate, discover, and learn. Through these experiences, they have been developing their problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.

Science Week is celebrated across Western Australia and Australia each year, encouraging children and communities to explore, question, and discover the wonders of science through hands-on learning and investigation.

We love seeing our children's curiosity, excitement, and joy for learning shine through every experiment! ✨

😁🦷 Healthy smiles start with healthy habits!

This week, our Maali friends had a special visit from one of our parents, who is a dentist. The children enjoyed learning about caring for their teeth, how often to brush, how long to brush for, and the importance of regular dental check-ups.

It was a fun and interactive experience filled with lots of learning and great conversations. Thank you to our amazing parent for sharing your expertise and helping our children build healthy habits for life! 🌟

🌿✨ Natural Loose Parts Play✨🌿

The Quenda children had a wonderful time exploring and creating with a variety of natural loose parts and recycled materials! πŸ‚πŸͺ΅πŸ“¦

Through this open-ended experience, the babies were encouraged to use their imaginations, creativity and curiosity as they experimented with different ways to use the materials. They developed important skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and fine motor skills while designing, building and creating.

The children were able to make their own choices, share ideas with one another, experiment with possibilities and discover that everyday and natural materials can be transformed into something completely new. πŸŒ±πŸ’‘

What a fantastic way to learn, explore and have fun together! 🌿😊

🌼 Celebrating Djilba in the Maali Room 🌼

Our kindy-aged children in the Maali Room have been learning about Djilba Season, a time of transformation and new growth in the Noongar calendar. To celebrate this special season, the children worked together to create a beautiful collaborative artwork representing the Acacia pycnantha, most commonly known as the golden wattle.

Through discussion, creativity, and teamwork, the children shared ideas and contributed their unique touches to the artwork, developing a deeper connection to the natural world and the seasonal changes around them.

We are so proud of their cooperation, creativity, and enthusiasm as they explored culture, nature, and art together. πŸ’›πŸŒΏ

A look at what we've been up to this week so far! 🌟

🦷 Brushing Teeth in Kaarakin Room

The children had a blast practising their tooth-brushing skills by cleaning lots of food build-up and plaque from a giant set of teeth. A big thank you to Carol David for creating this fun resource using recycled materials which allowed the children to get creative while learning about the importance of oral hygiene.

The space was filled with laughter as the children enthusiastically brushed away the plaque. We hope they take this same excitement home and continue practising healthy brushing habits every morning and before bed!

🌸 Flower Collage in Maali Room

We aim to incorporate natural materials into play experiences every day. This week, Educator Verda kindly donated a beautiful bunch of flowers for the children to use in creating their own collages.

The children explored the colours, shapes, and textures of the flowers while using their imaginations to create wonderful artworks. This engaging activity encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, and an appreciation for the natural world around them. It was lovely to see each child's unique ideas come to life through their creations. 🌿✨

πŸ’™ Ocean Explorers on a Submarine Mission! 🐠🌊

This week's special highlight was our beautiful handmade submarine, lovingly created with the help of our educator, Carol! πŸš’πŸ’™

Our educators introduced the Quenda children to the exciting world of submarines, exploring how they travel deep underwater and the amazing sea animals they might discover along the way. The children were fascinated and eager to imagine what life beneath the ocean could look like.

In the afternoon, the adventure continues as the children dive into a fun submarine role-play, pretending to explore the ocean depths and meet a variety of marine creatures. Through imaginative play, they’ll build storytelling skills, creativity, confidence, and teamwork while having lots of fun! πŸŒŠπŸ πŸ™

🎢 The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round! 🚌

In the Quenda Room the children have been absolutely loving The Wheels on the Bus!

It all started when the children grouped chairs together to create their very own bus. 🚍 They sang along, joined in with the movements, sounds, and gestures and had so much fun pretending to travel together!

Seeing their excitement, our educator Carol Rudy got creative and transformed recycled cardboard boxes into a miniature bus. The children have loved using their imaginations to explore, play and create their own bus adventures.

By following the children's interests, we can extend their learning in meaningful and engaging ways. Through imaginative play, they are developing communication skills, social connections, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. πŸŒŽπŸ’‘πŸ’›

In our Djidi-Djidi and Quenda learning environments, our educators thoughtfully create meaningful invitations to play that reflect children's developmental needs and emerging interests.

Recently, the children have been captivated by trucks, diggers, and forest animals. Inspired by their curiosity, our educators designed engaging play spaces that encourage exploration, imagination, and hands-on learning.

By following the children's interests, we create opportunities for rich conversations, problem-solving, creativity, and discovery because meaningful learning begins with play. 🌿🚜🦊

Kaya Families,

During our recent Tag Sports sessions, the children have been exploring the exciting game of basketball, developing their confidence and coordination through a variety of fun, hands-on activities.
The children were introduced to the basketball and learned how to bounce and dribble the ball while maintaining control. They practised using their fingertips to gently push the ball to the ground and worked on keeping the ball close to their bodies as they moved around the space. As their confidence grew, they challenged themselves to dribble while walking and changing direction.
The children also explored different ways to use the basketball, including rolling, throwing, catching, bouncing, and passing to a partner. These experiences supported the development of hand-eye coordination, balance, gross motor skills, body awareness, and spatial awareness while encouraging creativity and problem-solving through movement.
The physical literacy elements that were focused on were Object, manipulation, Agility, Coordination, Movement with equipment, confidence.
Throughout our basketball sessions, the children demonstrated persistence, teamwork, and resilience as they practised new skills, took turns, and encouraged one another. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as they explored the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, supportive, and active environment.

Our Coach this week was Coach Ella!
